Default Ultra lights and lightest wheels?

What 18'" wheels for the 996 tt would be considered ultralites? I am looking around for a wheel that looks awesome and is very light. I currently have the Techart Chromies but they are heavy.

I like 2 of the HRE's I've seen on wheelexpert.com. Are the HRE's suppose to be a light or ultralight category? Any other good recommendations??

What size do you want? For a point of reference, my 8.5x18 Volk TE37's weigh 17 lb each and the 10.5x18's weigh 19 lb each (measured by me). Beware of "claims".

Champion Motorsport makes one-piece forged aluminum wheels that are among the lightest excluding the Volks/Veloce GT1 (very limited sizes/availability) and those wheels made of exotic materials. Champion Motorsport's new website (http://www.championmotorsport.com/) is a total P.O.S., but my 18x8 and 18x10 RG5s are 18.5 and 19.5 lbs. You can often find TT sizes on fleaBay in 19" for dirt cheap. It's very rare to get under 20lbs for these big wheels. The HREs and Fikses (3 piece forged), if I'm not mistaken, are in the ballpark of 21 to 24 lbs. CCW also just came out with some nice looking one-piece forged, but I haven't seen weights yet.

Urban myth. Discussed ad nauseum on several boards. Sorry, but too bushed to look for them.

Try Volk Racing it is very light we used them (TE37, TE37 Mag, Forged Mag) in our cars M3, MITSU EVO, AMG E55. Havent used them with 993 though.

I myself love the HRE Competition C20 on 993 (they are lighter than regular 3 Piece HRE).

I know a guy who has TE37's on his 993 and loves them. I've got TE37's on my Boxster and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I'm looking for TE37's for my 05 987S and acording to a local supplier can't get close with the front offsets. So what size (front and rear) and what offsets do you have on your Boxster????
Any help really appreciated.

A problem you might have is that the TE37's only come in 18" rims. My understanding is that you need to stagger the front/back wheel sizes on a 987. Maybe this is done withe tire size/aspect ratio, I don't know. In any event the fronts are 8.5 x 18 et 50mm, the rears are 10.5 x 18 et 40mm. They also come in 10 x 18 et 50 or 60 mm. Mine fit with no spacers. The stadard color is bronze, but you can get them standard from the factory in either white or bronze, or add $30 per wheel for black, gun metal, gold or mercury silver. Mine are gun metal.

A word of caution: unless you can find a distributer that has them in stock, the waiting period for Ray's Engineering to fabricate them in Japan can exceed 6 months as they do not stock these rims for a Porsche but make a manufacturing run when there is enough orders to justify a run.

Thanks for all the info you've been a real help. I finally found a table of TE 37 sizes for porsche's and the sizes I need. The prices were all in Yen, if I tell my wife my new wheels are going to cost 280,000 Yen she'll freak out! Now I have to find a supplier up here in Canada who'll actually order them. All the shops here are selling tomato can mufflers to 16 year olds in Civics, Porsche stuff is over their heads. Who would you recomend in the States?

Thanks
Brad

The prices are in the $600-$700 per range. As a point of reference my 8.5 x 18's weigh 17lb each and the 10.5 x 18's weigh 19 lb each; these were weighed on my bathroom scale by weighing the wheels by themselves and weighing them with me holding them on the scale. This technique eliminates most of the scale bias at the ends of the scale capacity. This includes the valve stems but not the wheel balance weights.

The 12lb per wheel is either for a much smaller wheel or for magnesium racing wheels which do not have the durability for street use.
