911 Fuchs on 944 Turbo?
My understanding is 911 Fuchs will not clear the calipers on the front of an '86 (early offset) 944 turbo. If a 1/2 inch - 13 mm spacer is used, will this solve the problem? What about the rear?

I don't have Fuchs now, but have been looking for some. It seems that 911 Fuchs are far more comon thatn 944's. The 944's were only installed on a portion of the '86 cars. So I was looking for a way to use the 911 wheels on a 944.

I have 911 and 944Fuchs on my 944, and they work fine with 225-50-16tires, and really think they would take 245-45-16, but I have not tried them yet. There is no difference in the offset that I can see, they do look a little different and the number on the back says 911 on one pair and 951 on the other pair. I have a NA 944, but everything is the same except for the brakes, and the difference there is that I can use 15" and you can't, but the 16's are essentially the same, whether for a 911 or a 944.

Bill, the 951 fuchs are different from the 911 fuchs due to the larger brakes on the 944 turbo. The 951's have more backspacing than the 911 rims, but the same offset. 911 16" wheels will not fit over 951 calipers without a small spacer.

Bill; you can easily run 245/45/16s on the rear.
I've heard that it's the stock fuchs 951 rears that have the odd/unique offset, and part of what makes them hard to find used is that they are perfect for running as a wider rim on the front of some 911's.

Well, I'll be darned. I sure never thought there was much difference. I just went and looked and I sure am wrong. two of my wheels have 95162115 on the backside and have 3/16 of an inch more backspacing than the ones that have 911361020 on the backside. Therefore you would need a 3/16" or so spacer to use them on a 944 Turbo. How bout that, you learn something every day.
Also, I guess I should use the 951 wheels on the back of my 1983 944 and the 911 wheels on the front so the back track is a little wider than the front.
To Jim 944S2, yeah you would be right, but you would be surprised at the fact that most 911 people will not even think of using a 951 wheel on their car. Every ad I have seen seeking Fuchs by 911 types, they specifically say "911 offset only". Until today, I thought there was no difference except the way the lip was shaped.
By the way Jim, by your user name you must have a 944S2. I am building a 1987 944S, and I can't get about 3 or 4 of the lifters to pump up. (The car sat a long time) Got any ideas? or now someone that does?

:Hope you don't. It's a pain, and I dread changing them, and they cost $50 apiece, and there are 16 of them. Though I think there only about 3 or so that are bad.
