Default Can i mix the tire brands between front and rear tires?

Need to replace my P Zero Rosso for rear 285/30/18 on my 993. Thinking of using S 03 because the Pirellis are over $400 each in HK. So3 are about $350.

Can i run Pzero in front and S03 in back?

You might be ok if you are not tracking it, although from what I understand it is still not recommended. This thread is about mismatching the rears, you may want to read. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=106554

I had a terrible experience mixing tires with my 996 c4. The car behavior changed inmediatly and I did not understand the reason . I could not believe that it was caused by the new back tires !!! A real disaster . Like having the back tires in ice and the front in tarmac.
I finally had to change the 4 tires!

I have done it with my BMW and no special problems after some 1000 miles. AT first I could feel ( and really feel ) the difference and oversteer vocation !

This difference in results could be caused ( I try to guess ) by the electronics in the AWD of the c4. I suppose that they "sense" the traction difference with the new and old tires and that start to act.

Hope this helps..

Of course you can, but you really shouldn't, as mismatched tires can cause odd handling. Recommend replacing with same, then at your next tire change (where all 4 should be ready to replace), buy 4 new tires that you won't mind changing when the rears need to be replaced.

So, you cannot afford the right tires for a difference of $100? You've got to be kidding me. Anyway, the answer is DON'T DO IT. But, I think you should read this thread:

Yes, that didn't come out right. The main reason why I am considering putting S-03 is that I like to switch over completely and just at this point my front tires still has some tread life, figure when the pirelli fronts wear out I will install the S-03s.

Thanks guys.

start from scratch with a new set all around.....otherwise you'll be playing catch-up, you will have a set of worn rears when the fronts go.....made this mistake......wisdom is an expensive commodity

Hmm I would have thought it's more common to switch from S-03 to P-Zero considering all the negative comments I've read about the S-03. My understanding is that the S-03 sometimes causes wobbly rear ends, only on 911's. Nobody seems to know exactly why but even Bridgestone (or at least one of their employees here on the forum) acknowledges it. I think it was this thread:

Problem resolved.

Got matching Pirelli rears today. Thanks for comments guys.

Thinking of trying a set (4) of the Michelin Pilot Cup Sport next, seems like the consensus say they are the ultimate dry weather handling tire in terms of road grip.

you're NEVER supposed to mix tires on an AWD car. that's a good way to destroy your AWD system!!! i'm amazed that you have a garage like that and you don't know that...

Different brand tires will NOT affect the viscous coupling in an AWD car. Only if a size is changed which might affect the rolling circumference.

Usually a good idea to keep them all the same brand same as brake pads and shocks.
