Midnight Blue with blue and tan interior.
I purchased this car in March 2014 from the son and daughter-in-law of the original owner, with the sale brokered by a nationally-known Porsche race-prep shop, intending both to enjoy the car’s beauty and performance on weekends on local roads, and to track it at DE and autocross events with the Porsche club. Upon taking it to my race tech, however, I discovered it “had needs” before he and I felt safe tracking it and a month later I bought a fully-prepped Cayman S that’s been my track car, ever since. The 993 never made it to the track with me, though it was tracked by the previous owner.
“Sexy Beast” has been sitting under a cover in a garage on a battery tender, and has only 2000 more miles on it since my purchase. It’s time for it to find a home where it will get more use. Personally, I think it’s stunningly beautiful: one of Porsche’s most lovely shapes that was then lowered, bespoilered and put on race wheels. It’s a great dual-purpose car, and it could certainly be made even more hard-edged if desired (full cage, remove the AC, shorter gears, etc.) or kept as it and used as a daily driver if your commute doesn’t have too many potholes. It runs strongly, shifts smoothly, sounds great, looks even better and you can run the AC and radio on the way to and from the track.
I’ve priced the car aggressively in light of its general “rode hard and put away wet” appearance and the maintenance needs that the broker adroitly concealed: namely that the rear wheel bearings need replacement (which is commonly done by replacing the rear half-axles) and that the limited-slip rear dif needs a rebuild kit. This work was bid at $3100 by a reputable race shop at Metro NY/CT prices.
Here’s my best, honest attempt to describe the condition of the car:
THE GOOD:
993 C2 282 hp Coupe, one of 7769 produced
Beautiful and uncommon color
0-60 in 5.3 seconds, top speed of 171 (per Excellence Magazine)
Air-Conditioning (blows cold)
Original Radio (works)
Working Sunroof
No Oil Leaks (NONE!)
Suspension:
Lowered Mono-ball Suspension by Dan Jacobs/Harry Dog Garage
Aftermarket Coil-over Shocks (Bilstein)
Heavy-Duty Springs
Strut mounts and Adjustable Camber Plates
Adjustable Sway Bars
Performance/Reliability Upgrades
G-50 6-Speed Manual Transmission, rebuilt with steel synchros (per Broker)
HD Clutch (per Broker)
Lightened Flywheel (per Broker)
Factory Sport Exhaust/Sound Package (Sounds great; no droning)
Rennline Track Mats
Momo Steering Wheel
Appearance:
RS Replica Front Fascia/Spoiler (Techart?)
RS Replica Rear Tail/Spoiler.
17” Fikse Forged Aluminum FM-5 Wheels
Maintenance:
New Street Brake Pads (good race pads included)
New Emergency Brake Pads & Rebuild Kit
New Engine Belts and Sensor (extra new set of belts included)
New Interstate Battery
New Lighted Key Fob/Controller/Immobilizer
New Hood and Engine Cover Support Struts
Rebuilt Odometer
New Air and Pollen Filters
Oil Change
Safety:
GT3 Replica Carbon Fiber Race Seats (Rotec)
Schroth 6-pt Racing Harness (Out of date)
4-Point Welded Half-Cage/Rollbar
Emergency Battery Kill Switch and Remote Cable
Michelin Pilot Sport Tires (lots of tread, but out of service date)
Fire Extinguisher and Mount
THE BAD:
“10-footer” repaint (beautiful paint, really lazy, lousy masking)
Track Rash on Nose and wheel wells
Evidence of Repaired Body Damage (Only visible from underneath. Slow-motion slide into a tire wall on the driver’s side?)
Rotec Seats creak annoyingly in high-G turns
Horn Button mounted on underside of Steering Column
Weather Strip on Driver’s Door needs replacing
Rear wheel bearings have play
Limited Slip Differential needs rebuild
Paint Bubbling on Rear Spoiler
Paint Bubbling around Front Windshield
Central Warning Light comes on for no reason that I can determine
Passenger Window Switch stopped working, yesterday (cr@p!)

SOLD!
Leak down test results from Speed Sport were excellent. PPI had few surprises. Deposit received from a buyer who has been a pleasure with whom to do business at every point. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest. Cheers.

Arrived yesterday!
Thanks Iain for being so great to work with. Buying from across the country went as smooth as could be hoped for.
The car arrived yesterday on the enclosed truck. Car is everything I'd hoped for. Will be a great first Porsche!
Thanks also to Speedsport Tuning in Danbury CT for the PPI/leakdown, the repair work they did before shipping and for handling the shipping pickup on the CT end.
Car was smogged and titled in CO yesterday and is all set to go.
Have some fresh NT01's ready to go on for the track this weekend and picked up some MY02 lightweights for road usage. Also found some stock cashmere seats.
edit: this is how Colorado does emissions, they do pulls up to highway speeds. Sorry no HP numbers.
Cheers RL

Thanks to Jeff and Speedsport Tuning
I'll continue the love-fest here. Jeff was a pleasure with whom to do business: prompt, clear, communicative, and appreciative. Vance and Spencer at Speedsport Tuning were great, as always. The team quickly identified and fairly resolved issue after issue - including installing the new axles - permitted the buyer and I divide up the final bill and got the car loaded onto transport in record time with everything working. If only I had gone to them first. (Smacks self in side of head...)
I'm already feeling a bit wistful and tad jealous, seeing those nice seats and Nittos stacked up in the garage. Think I'll go change the oil and brake fluid in the Cayman for next Saturday at Lime Rock.
