The world seems not to be too different between USA and Germany....
To build exactly the same car again would be in the neighborhood of 250K€,
and I'm not sure I get our specialists to do it again....
These kind of people did it because we are friends not customers.
Our approach of investing in manhours of these people, rather than
collecting new parts from brembo, carillo, zuffenhaus, ....was because
we wanted to build a car which performs close to a 964 RSR in the 90s
but look like a car in the 70s. If you take that route you invest a lot in things many people don't recognize / appreciate.

To get original 9 and 11 x 15 inch Fuchs wheels under original shape RSR fenders/arches forces you to play with offset, the breaks have to fit and perform,.... automatically you need people who have been racing in the 70/80/90s and know exactly what worked and survived even in endurance racing environments....

Which 3.8L RSR pistons, cylinders to use, original RSR heads not available any more from Weissach out of the motorsport environment.....

few people know how to do it anyway, they are not cheap,
but it leaves you f.e. with an engine,
which looks like pretty stock when you open the lid.

When somebody says 'details of the build are scant' we know
that our details are not easy to discover.....
we invested to enjoy the car for ourselves!

Indiana Jones,
I put the essentials together now.
Hope that gives an overview.......

This 911 required extensive body work to arrive at it’s present shape. DP Motorsport Germany
welded all mirror and sill cover holes, adjusted the tail fin, the spare wheel tub and front panel.
The roof, doors and rear lid are still original steel parts. For all other parts spezial moulds
were fabricated to reproduce original RSR/ST shapes and the long hood.
The hood, fenders, wings and bumpers were drawn up in carbon/kevlar.

Headlights feature new Porsche European lenses and H4 lights.

Instead of mounting a ducktail the retractable rear spoiler got redesigned
to integrate the grill from the early 911 and support the desired ST-flyline.

The PPG 2-stage Sandbeige is similar to the factory color code 6807 from 1968 and was applied
over a white basecoat.. Trunk space sprayed in sandbeige, engine compartment, interior body
panels and underside sprayed black matt as it was in the good old days of the early 911.

All of the rubber gaskets and seals have been replaced, and all exterior trim is either chrom plated,
polished aluminium, or polished steel. Outside mirrors are genuine Talbot Berlin. Side-Decals are
light ivory and the original Porsche lettering in gold of the early 911S on the engine lid.
Original 15“ forged Fuchs wheels measure 9“ at the front and 11“ wide at the rear and are fitted
with Pirelli P7 Corsa Classic. Michelin TB5 R is an option.
15“ Fuchs was one MUST on our design-list for RSVT#5. The other design principles were:
Rounded shapes of ST/RSR, NO sill cover to hide any oil/AC- lines, NO ducktail!
All to create the Look of the late 60s of these cars in Racing.
The offset of the wheels is customized to compensate for the wider axles a 964 has
compared to an early 911, but also to allow using bigger breaks from the 964RS.
Interior modifications include early-style lollipop race seats, 4p willans safety belts,
contemporary rollbar, deep Momo steering wheel, dashboard, door panels, knee pads, ashtray,
armrests and sidewall covers, A and B pillars and hand break cover,
ALL wrapped in black leather, seat inserts and door panels perforated.

Black vinyl headliner and hair yarn boucle carpet also custom made by upholsterer.
Center console have been deleted and switches, cabling converted into dash.
GT2-shifter from the 993 is installed with an open switching backdrop
Chrome mirror original from the early 911.

Original 964 gauges redesigned and converted to match the style of the early 911.
Glove box, radio, HVAC controls and air nozzles have been redesigned and integrated in
a custom made aluminium trim. Switches for cig lighter and fog lights deleted.

Retrosound 2 radio installed with Becker Mexico style trim and *****,
paired with 4 high performance speaker in doors / rear shelf.
USB plug integrated in ashtray allows charging phone, bluetooth hands-free operation.
Odometer has been reset, but we have documentation of the previous 72k mileage .

Despite of having a recent fully overhauled 3.6 L engine when we acquired the car,
we opted to build a brand new 3.8 L engine from scratch.
Engine bay should look totally stock including additional heating and AC compressor.

Schaertl Racing rebuild the motor and the car now produces 340+ rear wheel horsepower
at 6,600 rpm as confirmed by the included dyno sheet.
Final wheight is said to be 2450 pounds.

The engine and chassis build includes the following:

Engine
• New rod bearings and bolts

• New cylinders and pistons 3,8 L giving 11.8:1 compression (Mahle/Woessner)

Thanks, verticalflight!

With our cars #2,#3,#4, it was exactly the same story.
When cars got listed, boom.... amazing feedback from buyers in
1) USA (especially California)
2) Canada
3) UK
4) SA / Australia, in this chronological order....

But, who bought the car finally?
#2 , a German chap living in southern France (mainly for track days)
#3, a German Gentleman Racer to use it for historic racing
#4, a Swiss Race Driver to have fun with his friends in the alps

Very simple reason why, they could do the PPI and 'put hand to metal'
as speednme desribed it before.

I'm pretty sure #5 this time will hit american roads, perhaps even in the bay area.....

Right after my posting Jochen Rohr knocked on my door here in Germany.
Jochen is the owner of Rohr Motorsport, Concord, Cal. and has an interesting history in racing Porsche cars in the 1990s in the US.
Mainly 964 and 993 RSRs but also GT2 and GT1 versions he stressed to the limit during these days.
And makes him an real expert to judge about the quality of our build.

He did a detailed PPI on RSVT#5.
He convinced me to start a partnership between RSVT Germany and Rohr Motorsport.
He will help US (and Canada) based buyers not only to import our cars into the US and get them approved/registered, but also take care of ongoing service and maintenance.
We already teamed up to get CARB approval for the 3.8L we have in our #5.

Feel free to contact Jochen directly to get more information.

Chris, no car of the world is worth to take such a risk!
I have the same issue... I can always only have one of my RSVTs.
Once I made a promise to my wife, I'll sell it before I do the next.
I must have been drunk when I did that I know

That's why you can buy actually the #5.....
#6 has already queued up in front of the garage.

And after I published that Jochen Rohr is our new partner in the US
Porsche aficionados clearly have picked up the track!
We'll see where she will land....

Cheers Detlef

According to Jochen it is pretty easy to import the car to the US.
DOT / EPA rules are covered because the car ist older than 25 years.
First registration was 17/01/1991 in Germany.
VIN, engine no., gearbox ... all is matching numbers.
Registration in all states other than California seems possible immediately.
In Cal. we need to go through CARB approval process and
Jochen takes care of that.

If youwant more details please contact Jochen directly

Thanks mdj577,
you will definitely see a #06, I guess in about 8-10 months.
Actually today a big article in a German magazine got published about #5!
I believe I'm not allowed to share the article itself (it's in German anyway)
but here's the frontispiece....

Other Magazines where already talking about #5 but the fact
that our car becomes the title story is new to us as well.
The whole article is 10 pages and recognition to the highest degree.
We feel really very honoured....

Has it been confirmed that this car is 100% legal to import? Yes, it falls under the 25 year rule, but it has been modified. Ask the Land Rover Defender owners (I have 2) about importing modified cars. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it may be problematic...regardless of matching numbers. There are numerous stories on www.DefenderSource.com of cars being held at port indefinitely, or being crushed due to non-original parts. The good news is, the .gov has a hard-on for Defenders, not so much for 911's. I guess my point is, if the buyer is in the US, make sure it can come in the country.

That being said, I love this car!

Thanks TMWTP for the input!
I used the link you offered and read about the 'Overby case'.
A car older than 25 years with an engine replacement after the original one got damaged. The replacement engine he used was older than 25years too.
Hence everybody says, if you import car and engine separately it seems to be possible, but they did not allow import of the vehicle because it was not the original motor...
So at least this example is a good example why you should really look for matching numbers....
I'm really glad that Jochen has a lot of experience in importing cars to the US and he can answer all the questions for sure.
Attached you find some information I retrieved from the CBP...
