You did extremely well and above market IMO, since a M5 with comparable miles could be had for $4-5k more. I almost bought the red 00' M5 at a Porsche dealer last summer that had 36k on it for $24,996 but reality had set in about BMW reliability and didn't want to go down that road again.

Well it was just finished in the shop. Both belts are new along with the valve cover gaskets and upper timing cover gaskets. It is ready to go.

Not sure on e39 M5 reliability, but my e39 540 M-sport 6-speed was still hauling at 160K miles on original everything. Such a practical and fun car.

Ive read it was 3k or so '03 540i M-Sports of which 1195 were 6-speeds.

The VIN's are sequential also for the 540i/6 so this car is #1122 of 1195. Also only 21 were made in Alpine White / Beige.

Also this car is only 2 off of my car, mine is #1124.

Before i bought mine i was actually looking for an E39 M5, but got a bit scared away with the maintenance. Dual row Vanos parts are $$ and the solenoids are a pretty common failure part which are super expensive. Also the MAF's dont seem to last very long. The big one for me was the rod bearings which seems like should be addressed at about 100k miles. Its mostly stuff that just needs to be done once for probably the rest of the usable life of the car, but never the less its still another $5k parts and labor into the car after buying it..sorta like a 996 with the IMS bearing.

The 540i is just the typical BMW valve cover leaks and cooling system components. Maybe timing chain guides but those are mostly cars with well over 100k miles.

GLWS- had a E39 540i sport with manual as well- probably one of the best cars I've had and that BMW made... and it still looks good!

Great car for someone.
