It's Rare because only 1,792 were made. ( you have an '88 928S4 right? -you know this) -How many do you think are still on the road -optimistically maybe 500?
Comparatively there were about 14,000 911s made for 1988 - and about 70,000 1988 BMWs. And about 400,000 US Hondas.
I have only seen about 4 other 928s driving around San Diego in the past 7+ years. That counts as quite Rare to me -and any other half-aware car guy I know.
Every Day I see 5-10 Mid-80s-90s Porsche 911s -and 10 more newer ones.
Ok it's not as rare as an '88 Ferrari or Lamborghini -but 1/5th of the price.
Just added the Clean CarFax Report on this Excellent '88 928S4 to the Ebay Listing - No Reserve Ends Monday 2:59PM.
BID! Win! Fly in, Drive home with a Huge Smile the whole way.

What's compelling about this example is all the crap added to it that makes it even more rare. Tasteless but rare I suppose.
Besides that, you are looking at a good $5000-8000 in deferred maintenance. A 17 year old timing belt and water pump is very, very bad news. You said the belt was new at 104k, adjusted at 105k but in the questions you counter that by saying it was done in 1999 at 89k. Top end has not been refreshed either so you are looking at a good cost on that.

This car is not a rare one. The rare ones and bought after ones are the 928 GT's in a manual. Now show me that car and we have a deal.
Also, I've seen cleaner, much cleaner at Cars and Coffee here in Los Angeles.
Still GLWS
