If that is your 993 in the avatar - why in the world wouldn't you buy the 997 instead? Better in every technical sense, isn't it? And probably cheaper even then the lunacy around 993s.

I've nothing against the 996TT, and I said it's the performance bargain of the Porsche brand.
Some who can afford a 996TT cannot afford the 997TT or 993. That's why it's the performance bargain.
Given the history and lineage of the 996, I understand why 996 owners are so touchy. I apologize if I hurt any feelings

The fact is, for many, much of the appeal of the 996 series is the entry level pricing. As a whole, the 996 is cheaper to buy than the 993 before it, and the 997 after it. That's just a fact.
One can buy a nice 996TT and get supercar performance. That same money would not get you into a 997TT or even a nice base 993, forget a 993TT. Also just a fact.
This particular 996TT is interesting as it is an anomaly, as it's price is such that one could buy a nice 997TT for the same money. And the exceptional value of this car is, the condition and low miles, both of which will be compromised when driven. Also just a fact. So it's value as it stands is as a collector car.
Facts are facts, and the proof is in the pudding. Who will step up and buy this lovely 996TT at this price point? The market has already spoken on used 993, 996 and 997 prices, and the market will decide this car as well.
Is the market ready for a pristine 996TT priced the same as a nice 997TT? That's the interesting question this thread poses.
As of today, this interesting 996TT is still for sale.

BTW, a ratty high mile 996TT isn't $58K either. Here's a similar mileage 996TT to the 993 you pointed out, and it's $38K. See? We can all cherry pick exceptions:

996TT Vs 997TT
My first Porsche was a 2001 996TT, had for 3 years, great car. Upgraded to a 2007 997TT, much better car in every aspect.
As far as bang for you buck, I agree the 996TT is a better buy.

I likemy 996tt, i like my 997 gt2 more. I think the 996tt will eventually hold a strong place in porsche history as the first water cooled w a gt1 derived engine. Nobody complained about the gt1 lights.....if you look at asking price relative to msrp. This is a bargain. The only issue with collectability of 996tt is the high production numbers when compared to the 993tt. Glws. Will be nice in a collection.

The bottom line for me is that the 997TT is a much better looking car than the 996TT. I owned both coupe and cab versions of each car. I think all the turbo cars from 2001 - 2008 or 9 represent very good performance value. I would try to go under budget and leave money for upgrades.
