When purchasing mine about 4 years ago, I flew from Colorado to the dealership. That was after about a week of phone discussion, correspondence, trade in valuation and negotiation. I think by that time they figured that I was a serious buyer and let me drive the car once I arrived. Obviously it's dealer discretion as to who they think is serious before they let someone drive their cars.
