Rare 1977 Porsche Carrera 3.0. The Carrera 3.0 was not sold new in the U.S.
and only 1123 were ever produced in Targa trim, according to http://911carrera3.com/.
The engine was professionally rebuilt in 2000 by Apcar Inc, and features 3.2 Mahle
Max Moritz pistons and 3.6 Carrera cams. The car was used sparingly after the
rebuild and has been off the road since 2006. Starts & runs great.

Usually I’m not a targa fan, but this engine in this car makes me a believer! GLWS.

As a former owner of 9117610055, it is always nice to see one of these, especially when they are in good condition.

Was the car supplied without a Carrera tail?

I was the second owner, bought the car in 1991, so all I can say for sure is that the care didn't have one when I bought it. I recently came across a website devoted to Carrera 3.0's, http://911carrera3.com/carrera-3-photos/. Just from looking at these pictures it looks like some of them had tails where
others didn't. I'm guessing it was an option. I'm leaning towards getting a COA so I should hopefully learn more about the car in original condition.

It looks like according to the website: "Model Year 1977 (running September 1976 until July 1977) runs a black polyurethane -a slightly flexible rubber- version of the whaletail, screwed onto the metal engine lid."

Just checked that page. If you look a little below that quote, it says the practice was different then the principle. Interesting read anyway.

Yup, just going by that page, it looks like you were entitled to one, but they had production problems, so oftentimes the whale tail would come late and had to be installed by the dealer.
