I’m wondering if anyone has experienced a popping sound when using a Seasucker bike mount on the panoramic glass ?
I was using the Talon to carry my e-Mountain bike (Turbo Levo SL) and when the car went over bumps that would move the bike side to side, it would occasionally pop. Makes me super concerned.
I sent an email to SeaSucker but wanted to see if another else has had this issue. Thanks!
If you hear popping the first thing I'd check is if the sucksion pumps are in the red or not. I guess the other thing would be to see if this has somehow damaged your roof.
It’s about 40 lbs. light for an e-bike, but still 40lbs
which is less than a roof box, which many people carry on pano roofs with seasucker bars.
i suspect it’s the weight concentrated in a small area , and so I’m going to try (1) putting one of the mount’s arms on the windshield, and (2) their mini bomber mount which spreads the weight across a much bigger area.

We’ll see… I’ll proceed slowly 😂
I think your pushing it weight wise. I image the roof skin is pretty thin for weight saving.
It's certainly possible!
Allegedly automotive glass is built to some standards that should well exceed this type of weight. They have videos of people on their bikes attached to rear glass of cars.
(I'm also fairly confident the issue isn't the static weight per se, but rather the lateral movement which is driven by the center of mass of the bike existing above the pano roof and in this case stabilized across a small contact patch on the glass)
I have some friends at Porsche, I'm trying to get word from their engineers !
turns out the noise was the front forks of my bike moving around on the mount ! And this is because they weren’t properly torqued down , due to my torque wrench being WAY off. I tried a second (new) torque wrench and it was significantly tighter. And when tested out when properly torqued , no noises! So lesson here: don’t buy cheap tools.
also, I did get the Mini Bomber mount and will likely use it as I like the design better than the talon.
So far I've only taken it about 15 minutes away from my house, so I don't really know just yet. I may do a longer drive this weekend for a bike ride, I'll see if I can capture the mi / kWh figure.
