And to add at Dave's excellent summary:

The car is fine, it's just a crappy charger.

If ordering new, what charger options should be selected, or better, avoided?

You’ll want to just buy a 3rd party one

the included PMC+ EVSE (not a charger - this is common mistake - it is an EVSE - the "charger" is on board inside the vehicle) is sufficient until you determine if you have a problem with it - and if it works for you with no problems then there is nothing more to be done. If you have any difficulties alternative non-Porsche EVSE's are easy, high quality, affordable, and 100% compatible.

I'd live with the included (free) EVSE before worry'ing too much.

I do recommend you follow Porsche's install recommendations for a high quality commerical/industrial grade NEMA 14-50/6-50 power socket - this is good advise for _ALL_ EVSE's and mirror's many other EV vendor's recommendations - for details you can review post #93 in this thread for Porsche's "official"recommendations…https://rennlist.com/forums/taycan/1...l#post18495910

post #15 also has my analysis and reference to other threads with additional information.

while I'm not a fan of the included PMC+ or (optional $1120 PMCC) I'd recommend "living" with it before spending additional funds on a replacement - if it gives you any problems alternatives are easy to obtain, reliable, compatible, and the PMC+ can simply be stored/ignored should that be a requirement.

alternatives start as low as $200 and go up from there…and there are numerous non-Porsche high quality high confidence alternatives.

this is my recommendation (see screen shot) for the "eMobility" section of any Taycan configuration for North America… certainly "avoid" the $1120 Mobile Charger Connect - $1120 is an ample budget for non-Porsche alternatives. the $0 supply cables are for alternative NEMA plugs and should mostly/only be chosen if you have existing NEMA plugs that you'd like to use already in your garage - otherwise the standard/included (and recommended) NEMA 14-50 supply cable will be your most compatible choice (with a NEMA 6-50 being a close runner up). the $0 25Ft cord is NOT $0 - it automatically "pulls" the $1120 PMCC - so if you want a 25ft cord I'd recommend using some of the $1120 savings on alternative higher quality non-Porsche porsche alternatives - high quality fully compatible options are available w/25Ft cords for 1/2 the cost of the $1120 PMCC and with work with your Taycan, Hybrid's and 99% of any EV you'll bring home in the future (including Tesla's).

the 19.2 kW option shoudl be avoided in north america unless you have a specific use case in mind and plan to install a 100/80 amp EVSE in your home(s) - you are unlikely to run into 19.2 kW EV chargers "in the wild" in North america - so it's primary use case is for reducing charging time at your home, work, vacation home, but requires a substantial investment in a dedicated 100 amp 240V circuit and a corresponding 100/80 AMP EVSE - consult with a local electrician on cost and feasibility of adding a dedicated 100 amp 240V circuit to your residence prior to optioning this feature - the cost of this features is:
  1. Porsche options cost ($1680)
  2. 100 amp EVSE ($1700 or more)
  3. additiona of a dedicated 100 amp circuit to your home ($2000 or more)
and while it's great to have this sort of EV infrastructure - and I love my 100 amp circuit - the improvement in charging speed is only realized in my home charging scenarios - as the likely hood of encountering a 100 amp EVSE when away from home is very very very rare and you'll mostly be using FastDC chargers (50-270 kW) or 30/40 amp (6.0 kW & 9.6 kW) public chargers - there are few if any 19.2 kW 240V AC L2 chargers in the general public charging infrastructure in North America, and the "growth" of public charging is the much faster FastDC CCS infrastructure which is much faster and superior 100-350 kW chargers - this option will see very very little utilization unless you personally install it for your personal use.

also please consider any effort/cost/expenses you put into an EV charger for your home is also 99% likely to be fully compatible with your Taycan and any future EV you will eventually bring home - so this is is a long term investment for all your EV's not just your Taycan.

while I will apologize for the length of these threads - I will not apologize for the quality or thoroughness of the content - the following threads remain in my opinion the best resources for new EV owners looking to come up to speed on "what the heck" should I do for my home EV charging…and lot of ground is covered in the following threads and the information you need/want is in these threads - there is virtually no topic regarding home EV charging that is not already covered somewhere in these threads…

this is what can happen if you use a "cheap" NEMA socket w/Porsche PMC+/PMCC due to Porsche failing EE 101 and shipping their PMC+/PMCC with a substandard power supply cord which can get quite hot - not hot enough for the porsche part to fail - but hot enough for lesser parts Porsche might be plugged into to become thermally stressed and potentially fail…

Which is why I will be using my existing Tesla Wall Connector with a TeslaTap 80A version (want the overhead even though I'm only outputting 48A). I'll do a proper 3rd party Wall Connector in our new house we are building. Probably pull a dedicated 100A - 150A panel just to support EV charging since it's a new home build. No interest in the Porsche branded EV stuff and certainly not interesting in anything but hard wired with proper gauge copper wire.
