"2023 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Hits 150 MPH a Full Second Quicker

What’s going on? It’s down to a very turbo-sounding word: boost. Or, more specifically, overboost. (...) When the Taycan Turbo S was first rolled out, the conservative answer was three seconds. In later iterations, overboost was allowed to persist for a full 10 seconds. Porsche made this change after understanding in-use customer behavior of their first EV in more detail and also after the ongoing testing that Porsche has always done to constantly improve their products. The effect of 10 seconds of overboost versus three seconds is exactly what our two test results have quantified."

The 2025 Porsche Taycan shines bright at night

Unlike our neighbours to the south, Canada will get Porsche’s 32,000-pixel HD Matrix headlights. These units use the camera as well as speed and navigation data, so they are constantly adapting to the road and traffic while throwing the light 600-metres down the road. When an on-coming car is detected, the light pattern can be changed in just 16-milliseconds, so it provides optimal illumination without blinding other road users. The light pattern was so powerful it was actually visible on an overcast day, so they must be brilliant at night.

I do wonder how important charging speed is to the typical Taycan buyer. Most will have the ability to charge at home and the number of instances where they need a public charger will be relatively small. The time savings will be inconsequential over the course of a month or year.

Still, cool tech.

Meh, when I owned my Model 3 I used to do 95% of my charging at home but I still drove from Houston to Dallas once every 4-6 weeks and you can bet those charging stops I made got to be long pretty quickly.

....and as Kyle said here, this is the most relevant performance. This result is your ability to road trip. And the Taycan is a beast.

Definitely impressive tech. The question is, how many times per year is the typical Taycan owner charging away from home? Multiply that by the time saved per public charge event and I don't see it having much of a meaningful impact on the life of the average owner. Obviously, frequent road trippers would definitely see good value in it.

I've owned my Tesla for 6 months and haven't relied on a public charger once. It starts every day at a full state of charge.

Completely depends on your use case. As I said, in my instance, it would be 10-12 times a year, which I would certainly consider a factor, if not the deciding factor, in my ownership.

Moreover, it most definitely is an issue to many buyers, and the most frequent objection to those panning the mass adoption of EV's. Just because you can charge at home doesn't mean the issue should be marginalized. What about a wealthy owner who wants to keep this in his Manhattan apartment building? Or South Beach Condo? Or that lives in a congestion zone in a busy city in Europe?

Your use case is not the rule. Nor is mine.

Not really. I have a Mercedes EQS580 4Matic sedan that regularly exceeds its EPA range (345 miles) in actual use (warm weather).
The guess-o-meter regularly cranks out ranges between 390 and 450 miles if driven modestly.

The Telsa didn't win the percent of range contest because they assume ridiculously high efficiency numbers. 5.2 mpkWh, give me a break.
