Also word down the grapevine is that someone will have a complete final drive gearing solution (about 20% shorter) available in early/mid 2017

Now your talking this is the kind of drop thats needed

It turns out the rear cam adapter can be used for video, still working on getting a front camera, but if anybody wants to know pm me.

Probably the loosest definition of a modification ever, but I bagged a keyring featuring a serval from a South African big cat sanctuary.

sounds like the ultimate Spyder is in the making:
- X51 kit with larger throttle body to eliminate the top end dips for that VTEC-like powercurve
- sport headers to fill out the torque curve and improve the sound
- lighter flywheel for better throttle response
- HRE or BBS wheels for lower unsprung weight

Whose? Yours?.. I want to do the flywheel but I'm concerned it's one step too far as far as reversibility. Power curve at top improved sufficiently for me with the plenum/tb mod.. I think my spyder is now perfectly balanced for my taste, and $/smile ratio has already reached infinity.

I think you meant smile/$

based on the dyno charts of the plenum/tb cars with headers, the curve still looks more lumpy than I'd like and flat after 6800 rpm or so

Looking for a curve like this at the top end...

Default new tires for Spyder

at a little over 7k miles, my rear Pirellis on the Spyder are pretty much without tread.. is this normal?.. seems like a very short life without having done track work.. just "spirited" mountain twisties.

I'm thinking I'd like to go with a slightly wider footprint.. noticed that some guys with wider tires also while leaving the stock wheels. Any suggestions?

This is probably a stupid question, but can i go slightly wider in back while leaving my front tires unchanged (they still have lots of tread, and like the "light" feel.. don't want to lose feel in the steering with wider tires)... or will the diameter difference cause a problem or look badly?

thanks!

I ended up changing all tires at 6k miles. Lots of spirited drives too, plus maybe a track day or 17. I went 245 in the front with 275 for the rears. MPSS. I noticed a great difference in handling, in a positive way. Still very tossable, but also grippier. I feel that I can corner a bit more aggressively as well.

If you increase just the back width and put a tyre with better grip then the balance will be lost and you will have understeer. This can probably be reset through suspension set up but i wouldnt go there. Also more grip doesnt = more fun

I'm at 12k miles and the Pirellis are still good. I did one track day at Sebring and the rest of the miles have been on boring congested central Florida roads. I'd gladly exchange fewer miles on the tires for some fun mountain roads.

I'm on just over 8k, a few bits on track, but mainly A/B roads and a big euro tour. Rears have about 1k left in them now. So I will have the same dilemma soon.
I expect I will replace the rears this time, like for like, then look to see the best option to replace all tyres next year.

This concern about increasing understeer concerns me.. I wanted slightly wider for looks, but at expense of handling.. although I do wish the car were a little more planted at times.. I want that at all four corners, not just the rear. Would this increase in understeer be noticeable at "sane" road speeds or just on track?

I only got about 8K miles on the rear tires on my 987.1, Michelin Pilot Super Sports. The front tires lasted over 25K miles.
