Default Added Cayman R to Garage with GT3!

Hi guys,

I've posted quite a bit in the 997.2 GT3 section, but never here.

Anyways, I took delivery of a 2012 Cayman R this last weekend. It was my wife's birthday and I surprised her with the track car she wanted. She's gonna use it as a cruiser as well, so it's not stripped (as I would want it). The dealer is gonna switch out the seats to carbon fiber buckets that I'm gonna steal and put in my GT3; therefore, the Cayman R will get my GT3 power adaptive sport seats. The side markers are also gonna be changed for clear ones.

Impressions: The PDK is growing on me. I took the car to work today and the car was great on the highway and in traffic. Very responsive in Sport Plus mode. Honestly, it does not compare to the GT3. They are two very different cars with the GT3 being more raw, faster, and at home at the track. The Cayman is more civilized and easier to drive. I really like it. Much, much better than the 2006 Cayman S we used to have.

Well, anyways, looking forward to learning from you guys on this 987 forum.

Thanks.

Kyriacos

Congratulations. With a few mods it can be a very capable track car.

Congrats! Great addition to the lineup! Let me know what you think of the brake pedal feel on the Cayman R vs. the GT3, though.

I forgot to post that. It's actually one of the first things I noticed.

The Cayman R brake pedal is soft and mushy and there is a A LOT of pedal travel compared to the GT3 (I have steel brakes on both). Don't get me wrong, the brakes work great, but the pedal travel is long, IMO.

Yes! To all the naysayers that think I'm nuts: Take THAT! LOL

Swap the master cylinder to a GT3 master cylinder and the pedal travel will decrease. It will still feel a bit soft, though.

Congratulations, kyrocks

This section isn't as active as the GT3 section, but you'll find plenty of knowledge, and more than a few GT3 cross-posters here.

Try to remember that it's your wife's car

id that about a year ago on my Cayman and would consider it one of the best mods you can do. I am using less brake on the track now as I have better brake feel.

Thanks, Khooni! The comment was not directed at you specifically. Others have challenged the functional capability of the sensory nerves in my leg.

Nice get. I'd love to buy my wife something nicer but she has no interest in a real Porsche. She loves her Cayenne. Maybe PDK would change her mind ??? Hmmmm......
