Spyder owners, what's your daily?
Hey folks-
Just picked up a 2012 Golf TDI 6-spd manual for my daily driver. I drive for about 30k miles a year for work and needed something efficient, practical, and somewhat fun to drive.
Averaged 47 mpg on a 200 mile trip, engine hasn't even been broken in yet! Only used a quarter tank of fuel!
Curious to see what other folks have out there as a daily driver, well of course, if it isn't the spyder.

Interesting topic. I have an FJ Cruiser and it's thirsty and have been thinking, I should investigate alternatives. I live in DC Metro, so we get occasional snow/ice, so I like having the AWD option. Actually looked at a Nissan Juke. Turbo 4, AWD, and not expensive, but polarizing design/looks. Is there an AWD variant for the VW?

I have a Mazda Speed3 for daily driving duty. In stock form it comes with Bridgestone Summer Tires to help with the traction. 263 Hp Fwd, makes for a fun sleeper.
In the winter it gets four Blizzaks which make it drive like a 4wd unless the drifts are more than 6" deep.

I wish VAG would offer an AWD version of the Golf/Jetta TDI in the US. Even a Tiguan. Or an A3, A4, or Q5. I am a big diesel fan, took a look at the VWs, and ended up with an X5d earlier this year, even though I wanted something smaller. Compared to the Jetta wagon, I liked the Golf's better seats and suspension, but wanted the more dog-friendly cargo area of the wagon. The X5d was actually a better deal than the Touareg TDI.
I'm hoping Porsche brings the Cajun over with a diesel to replace the X5d when the lease is up in 2014.

I have a Mercedes Benz 2007 CL600 Twin-Turbo V12 as daily driver. You be surprised what 600+lbs of torque can do to propel you quickly to the local 'Whole Foods' to grab some organic produce for your dinner! Yummy. However, I have recently acquired a 1974 Super Beetle Convertible by Karmann to blend in more with the '99%' since I am exactly midway between Santa Cruz and Big Sur, two of the hippie'st places in the West Coast. Hey, what about the Beetle Convertible?...What girl do we associate with that?

For those of you running VW's, how is the reliability? I love how they drive and look but I had some pretty bad experiences back in the late 90's which has kept me away from them. The Audi A3 is especially attractive as it's a good size and has a nice interior which my Mazda really lacks.
