Thanks Alan for that information. Good research. It is also hard to tell via the PCNA dealer website all the other Spyders with late VIN #'s because not all of them are listed there. Mine is not listed at my dealer's website because it's pre-sold. Hennessy in Georgia, on the other hand, appears to show all incoming vehicles on their website, whether pre-sold or not. One of the Cayman R's currently on their site belongs to a Rennlist member here and was just put on a boat in Germany on its way to the dealer!
However, we now know that Spyder production went up to Vin#5202 at the very least! Let's see if more show up with an even higher VIN#. z356

All whom I talked to confirmed, without equivocating, that 987 Spyder production is over, finito! July of 2011 was the last of the Spyders built, period.
Be in the lookout for the upcoming Excellence article pitting the Spyder vs the Cayman R! It is not about the so-called 'open cockpit' advantage of the Spyder - the fresh air, the noise, the bonding with nature and all of that jazz - vs the enclosed cabin of the Cayman R. It is all about road holding, suspension and confidence-inspiring performance! As a result, you will go faster (given equal drivers) in ONE of them. But you will have to wait for the article to come out to find out which ONE of these two great Porsche models is it! I think most of us will be surprised at the results of this face-to-face test. Just picked up #5705 this weekend, what an amazing car!

Considering there were 604 Carrera GTs sold in the US, the Spyder numbers make it much rarer than I expected.

so, now with the press reporting "rides in the new Boxster" and debut at Geneva, not Detroit, what's the consensus on end of 987 production?
looks like new Boxsters (981) will arrive around May, although that seems optimistic for the US
has Cayman R allocation ended? builds are scheduled in January
and when will 981 Caymans arrive?
