Default Spyder-how loud is interior at freeway speed

Top Up? Top down? I have 09 Boxster and enjoy the level of sound top up. Am considering a Spyder. thanks!

pretty joyful in about 4th gear, if you like that raspy, flat 6 growl

in 7th, kind of quiet from the engine and just some wind noise, but not that much. Boxsters sit ya kind of low in the cockpit, I like that.

Been rainy and chilly here so not much time with the top down, though in a Spyder I don't expect it to be too different

In 7th, wow you got the special edition.

The wind noise with the top up is fine until you hit about 70 mph, then things get a little noisy. With the top down it's not much different than the Boxster.

^agree with PolarPorsche. On local roads, it's not a big deal at all, but at high speeds on the highway it's like driving around with the rear windows open in a regular car. Two of the tracks I go to are 2 hours away, and the noise does get a bit annoying after a while. That's the tradeoff for this car though. That's why it's not for everyone

is it a bad RPM range or it just annoys you after a while?

I agree the top booms at speed, but I didn't expect it not to do that.

Nothing to do with rpms. It's the wind noise from the top. Sounds like you're driving with the windows open, but you're not.

Thanks for the info. Being I am not going to track the car, think I will stay with my Cayman Cabriolet.

pdxjim,
If you want I can give you a ride in my Spyder for you to check out the sound first hand. I'm in the Bethany area. Let me know.

Cayman Cabriolet? Or do you mean a Boxster.

Depends on how you drive it...if you keep it fast enough, the magnificent sound of the boxer 6 will dwarf any road noise!!!

I don't think the car is loud with the top up although I had the rear cover attached and I didn't get past 65 mph on that particular drive. Majority of my drives have been with the top off which is what this car was designed for!

With the top down the car is magnificent. The amount of air in the cockpit is perfect on a warm day and tolerable when temperatures are below 55 F. Windows do need to be up to keep it tolerable on a cold day. No problems with having a conversation or listening to the radio in the car.

Keep in mind that the top is designed to keep out the elements and block the sun when needed. It's not by any stretch of the imagination designed to insulate the driver and truthfully that is what I wanted when I bought it. The Boxster S is a better choice if you want more comfort oriented features.

I still think the Spyder is the perfect car, at least for me it is!
