Default How are you washing your Spyder?

I am hesitant to wash the Spyder however I normally would in fear of water seeping in places. I know it should be sealed for the most part. Is everyone still spraying water over the entire car or trying to avoid certain area's? i.e. the 2nd part of the top attachment with the window?

To be honest, I have not "washed" my Spyder yet. When I take it out I come back I wipe it done with fresh wet microfiber towel. I use Mother's FX spray wax and then wipe/dry it with a fresh dry microfiber towel. I then use PLEXUS Plastic cleaner and wipe down the entire front end that has be wrapped in a X-PEL clear bra. So far so good, the rims and the brake dust are another issue

Dealership low pressure car wash, every week. No issues at all.

Same as all the other vehicles I own, the coin operated, wand type car wash. Stay away from the tops of the door windows.

This is my process:
1. Spray Sonax wheel wash on a single wheel. Let Set for 5-7 minutes.
2. Brush wheels with Swissvax Wheel Brush, then use microfiber hand scrub for inner wheels
3. Rinse Wheels... repeat 1-3 for the other 3 wheels.
4. Rinse Entire Car
5. Wash with Swissvax Auto Bath using a Ultra soft Lambs Skin Mitt and a Grit Guard Bucket in this order:
-Glass
-Hood
-Rear hatch
-Waistline
-Front bumper
-Sides
-Rear Bumper
6. Use a soft brush for the top very lightly. (Lambs Skin Mitt will attract onto the top).
7. Sheet rinse with the water with the hose to minimize water drops
8. Dry with waffle microfiber towel
9. Use Swissvax window wash on all glass dress tires (PNEU)
10. drive the car around the block to remove rust on rotors
11. Wipe any rust drips in the inner wheels from the rotors.
12. Use Painters Blue Tape to remove any lint from the soft top.

I do this about once every 1-2 weeks. As mentioned earlier, don't spray direct water pressure at where the top of the windows meet the soft top... will leak with high pressure water.

Man I love this car!!! Even in in the rain!!!

As long as whatever wash method you use isn't using a high pressure washer and blasting the seems of the roof then you should be good to go. Whatever method you choose from there is up to you depending on how picky you are about your paint.

Personally my process is similar to what Cayman posted but I'm in a 987S.

Only thing I do differently than any other car is unhook the 'buttress' portions and close the trunk lid, leaving them on the roof to better access the trunk lid for cleaning and rinsing. This leaves the rear corners of the roof more vulnerable to water intrusion, but I just dry off any water that gets inside. If you're careful, it's only a few drops.

I also thoroughly dry the wells in the front of the rear trunk/top stowage area, as this is the drainage for the leading edge of the trunk lid. Be careful, as the screens covering the drain holes are fragile.

FWIW, I use P21-S gel wheel cleaner, Einszett Auto Glanz Shampoo, Griot's cotton mitt, and microfiber towels.

Clear, clean water is not going to hurt or damage your car as long as you don't spray directly on the computer control systems (DME). Don't worry, its all dipped before painted, and its the salt, road grime and mud that you don't want into tight spots. Rinse water is OK anywhere on the car except for electronics.

My concern is mold and mildew in the trunk area, not rust or corrosion...I'm by the beach, and things don't dry out quickly.

I have taken all of my Cayman Cabriolets through the car wash. Assuming with the Spyder, it is no-no?
