Just shaved off 7 pounds. Oh wait, I put the PCM in the frunk.

Nice work! I am contemplating doing the same. I have had my car for more than two years and have never used the unit. I have also just added a very loud exhaust which means that music would need to swim even more steeply upstream!
One ques: is there any programming that needed to be done? When the radio is off, I get a "radio off" message in the gauge cluster. If I make this swap will I now see "no radio" displayed?
One more ques: in the pic, it appears that the black finish of the cubby is a little more matt than the black finish of the climate control unit. Can you please confirm?

Do it!
Q1 - no errors or anyting. Just unclip the large rectangular harness hookup in the back and the smaller (antenna?), stuff the harnesses into the area behind the PCM, add the Rennlne phone mount on the right leather panel, screw back the left and right panels, and insert the new cubby box. Voila!
Q2 - Yes, cubby is a matt black Vs. the shinny black of the climate control. But it all works visually just fine with the grey alcantara etc...
I was just thinking - I am not the first time 3 X Spyder owner. There's another Rennlister here. Anyone know who he is?
I am one of them at least. Not sure if there are others also.
I have some great cars and the Spyder is just such a great driving car. I had not driven mine in a while and took it for a quick spin today and boy do I love that car....
I was again contemplating selling this one...but after driving it I have come to my senses...
Problem is I have too many cars and will need to get rid of something before too long.
I have 5 cars now with an incoming Audi R8GT sometime this month and a 911 Dakar coming in January...
5 maybe 6 cars is the limit so something will have to go...
I just love them all though.
But the Spyder is one of my favorite cars I have ever owned - hence why I am on #3 now. Which I have now owned for 4 years and that is a record for any car ever!

Love the Turbo Wheels…. Did you get rid of your 718? Spent many years in a 9872 and will likely pick one up again… the 9872 Spyder is probably my favorite looking Porsche ever.

Yes, my lease came up and I sold my 718 Spyder back to the dealership for a decent price. I missed the high by a couple of months but whatever. They're having trouble selling it - a PTS Spyder in Olse Blue! It's stunning and a GREAT car.
The Gen-1 Spyder kept calling me back. Just as my 718 lease was ending I drove two different Spyders and just had that "WOW moment" and said "I'm done with the new stuff" and found this nicely used one back east.
It is a good looking Porsche, styled on the heals of the CGT, and a GREAT driver. I am amazed, still, every time I jump in it and rip off down the road. Do I look at older GT3's, the 997.1 / 997.2? Yep, but they are a couple in town for sale but they are just not the car for the type of driving I do here on our local roads up in the hills and canyons. The Spyder is PERFECT. I feel like my search is over.
Let me know if you start on the hunt. I found mine through this Forum. The hunt is the most fun!

Couldn't agree more. I had a 997.2 GT3 for a couple of years alongside my Spyder, and while the GT3 was of course faster I did not enjoy it more...in fact I enjoyed driving it less for the reason you stated (in bold now) above. I'm glad I bought the GT3, but I can't say I really miss it. I'm on year 8 with my Spyder and plan to keep it for a long time.

Exactly. Do I miss my 997.2 GT3 RS? Yes, every now and then, for that 1 hour driving experience, but now have this GREAT Spyder that gives and gives and gives. So probably like you - grateful for the GT3 experience but supper happy in this very very unique drivers car.
