987 Spyder : MT vs PDK?
Hello Community,
I am planning to buy an 987 Spyder (ideally in red guard but hard to find in Europe) this year.
I am already owning a 997.2 GT3, so in MT.
987 Spyder’s philosophy is lightweight so MT is in line with this. But does the PDK is a wrong choice for this car? Is PDK of 2010/2011 is reliable ?
My main use will roadtrips.
Thanks for your feedbacks.

Part of my reason for my PDK choice is that I’m 6’4” and there is marginal room for my clutch foot in the Spyder. That said, getting out of congested cities in a manual is a pain and I really like the PDK in the twisties in manual mode.
The PDK box has been reliable in my use but there are owner posts of issues. I have no way of knowing what percentage have issues. It’s a bit like the IMS issues with 987.1, those affected are very vocal.
I found a PDK oil change and calibration noticeably improved shift smoothness so that is something to take into account.
All of the above said, manuals fetch higher prices so some definitely prefer them. How much they actually drive them is unknown.
Re weight, I think it’s marginal. A 986 is lighter so is an F body 911 or my 964. I love the turn-in and the X73 suspension is firm but well developed.
It’s really your choice.
There is one MT Red Spyder in New Zealand. My neighbour had one https://youtu.be/3cagY_-Tecw
I also go to the track occasionally. PDK is fine https://youtu.be/OImBmza26sQ

My first Porsche was a brand new, special ordered 981 Cayman Base with PDK. This was followed by an almost new 981 Cayman GTS with ... PDK. Next was a Carrara White 987 Spyder with ...... PDK. Currently I own a Aqua Blue 987 Spyder with (wait for it) ......... PDK. Enuf said...

I think this is one of the "legendary" Porsche debates listed here:
1. PDK Vs. MT?
2. PCCB Vs. Steel brakes?
3. LWBS Vs. Sport hard back seats?
4. GT2 LWBS (Gen-1 Spyder) Vs. 918 LWBS (latest)?
5. Pre 2012 Hydraulic Vs. Electric assisted steering?
6. Gen-1 Spyder roof Vs. Gen-2/3 Spyder rood?
7. AC Vs. Water-cooled?
8. the list goes on... ?
Myself? I've had and enjoyed all of the above, currently have fun ripping my Macan GTS PDK (in Sport Mode). For me, as it's not my daily driver (Mark VI Golf, MT) I still prefer the MT in the Gen-1 Spyder with the GT2 LWBS and I use it for those oh-so-epic romps through the city at early hours and up into the local hills. It's a true, top-down, roadster.
But realistically, you can't wrong either way.
P.s. Good to hear that you can do a re-calicbration on the PDK. I've heard the PDK has improved with each iteration.

Did you add the alcantara steering wheel ? I thought the original is made of leather.
