Default what oem color rims were there on 987 spyder?

I want to return my car to factory spec but am not sure about the color of the rims.

Did the 987 spyder come with all black rims? And if so was it in gloss or Matt finish?

Ive seen many with gloss black and then a silver ring around the rim per attached... mine is currently painted matte (satin) black so I’m not sure if that was a possible combo from factory

The standard offerings from Porsche were:
- Gloss Silver (most common)
- Gloss Black with silver lip
- Paint to match body color

so my matte(satin) finish is basically a phony repaint that was done by one of the previous owners? I'm thinking the same thing too as I've never seen a similar finish on a spyder before...

Have you looked up your VIN sheet? It will specify if the wheels were painted black or to body. Yours do appear to be painted after-the-fact.

I have a VIN decoder sheet but it mentions nothing about wheel color... only

445 19” Boxster Spyder Wheel

Which I believe is the standard silver. It would say "XDA Wheels Painted Black...." or something to that effect.

I'm guessing they were silver and someone had them powder-coated.

Yes those are definitely painted after the fact if they’re satin without a lip.

If the build sheet doesn’t specify black then it would be the standard silver wheel as noted by daylorb

It's a pretty good looking paint job though - I don't mind it at all and at least you know the OEM wheels are underneath!

If you are going back to original there are two thoughts:

1. Silver wheels show the brake dust very quickly so you will be cleaning more often.

2. The original colour is actually two colours, it’s one on the hoop and another on the spokes. It would pay to find an original wheel to help the painters get it right.

If you are really focused on an original finish I’d look at getting a new set and selling off the painted ones. Costs mount to get things done right.

Good point on the paint differences for the silver wheels, the barrels are a non metallic grey while the faces are a metallic silver.

It might be worth checking if the dull black finish on them now is actually plasti-dip.. really common on wheels done by DIY'ers. If so - it peels off. The original finish would then be revealed.

good call on this will make sure it’s dip stripped and painted properly...

sadly it was a satin paint job that was mediocre at best so needs to go!

I didn't catch this. Probably worth adding to the FAQ. I'm guessing nobody has paint codes for these?

I realize this is an old thread, however, I have a question about the correct finish on a A1 black Spyder. The build sheet states that it came with options 445 - 19" Boxster Spyder Wheel(s) and XD9 - Wheels Painted in Exterior Color. I have two questions. 1) would the wheels have had the silver lip or would they have been all black? 2) would they have been all one color gloss black or, like the standard silver wheels, been two tones of black? I would think one color but just want to make sure.

Thanks,
