Cracked brake caliper piston...

Cracked brake caliper piston...
I found cracks on one of the pistons in the front brake caliper (2015 GT3 with steel discs).
Is it safe to drive trackdays with this cracked piston?
Is it a common problem?
Is there any better product then the OE piston to replace the cracked piston?
Cheers

This is a warranty claim.
go to your dealer and tell them to replace under warranty.
well known issue.
Fix will be new caliper for impacted corner.
safe to drive on track, not really.

Not that common but it can happen.
They could deny your warranty if dust boots are totally worn (from what I heard...). Otherwise it should be fine.
If you want to go aftermarket you can check RacingBrake.com.
They are selling stainless steel vented piston and "high temperature" dust boots (but no feedback from Porsche owners afaik...)

Running into the same problem, dealer refusing to replace (very likely thanks to PCNA).
Very frustrated with PCNA, their "Porsche Contact Center" really lacks.
Very surprised they can just refuse to pay for cracked pucks, but WAY MORE PISSED on how they treat you over the phone, they don't seem to care at all whether they are pissing you off or not.

Had this happen in a 2015 991.1 GT3. Dealer replaced calipers under warranty. Pads taper, put stress on the pucks and they crack. Never tried it but checking pads and rotating if they are tapered might help prevent this.

You are absolutely right (in my opinion)... I've been arguing with them (both PCNA and Dealership) that is not a matter of heat, but taper and its resultant exponential increase of pressure on the pucks.
ALL the pucks I've seen are cracked very similarly.
Rotating the pads regularly will alleviate -or even solve- the problem, but they don't want to hear about it.

Gentlemen , be sure you car goes to dealer with oem pads if you are seeking cracked puck issue replacement under warranty , if approved the whole caliper is replaced
Porsche or brembo doesn't have rebuild kit , only dust boots are replaceable .

It's not a cracked piston. It's a spacer/puck on top of the piston that minimized heat transfer into the caliper/piston.
needs to be fixed, only a safety issue if it fully cracks and the pads get very small and you push a piston out past the seal.

I pushed and complained, got one front and one rear calipers under “Goodwill”.
This was along with a $11K service bill at 24000 miles, 12000 track.
After one track day, the new caliper 2 pucks were cracked.
BTW the 2 old calipers were much darker then the new ones, so when I permanently fixed the problem with Autoquest Ti pistons I painted all 4 calipers..
i should have skipped the goodwill step alltogether.

I was told PCNA must approve. IMO, Simple heat would create random cracking. All the pictures I’ve seen have leading edge cracking on all pucks indicating uniform stress deformation supporting a taper pad force related theory. I have limited data on this and heat could be a contributing factor to the failure. I would agree PCNA sees more of them and in the end they decide what gets covered.
