Default Serpentine belt recommendation 01 C4

Since I don't know the last time my serpentine belt was replaced (bought the car used) I'm thinking of doing it in the coming weeks. It does whine a little (if not started for a few weeks and only for a minute or so) until it warms up then goes away. The car does have AC. I noticed several available and the pricing is all over the place.....any recommendations on type I should get?

Dunno about belt recs but the whine might be normal sound of your secondary air injector, they whine on cold start for about a minute.

Your probably right as it's a real faint whine sound and settles down once it come off cold start

I recently had 2 idler pulleys and the belt replaced on my 99 996.1 3.4. Here were the part numbers used:

997-102-119-00 idle roller
996-102-151-68-OEM 6РК2115 BELT

Thank you Sir. I'm assuming yours has AC correct? Apparently the belts are different sizes if you don't? Thanks again!

Interesting. I didn’t think these cars came without AC, but yes, mine has AC.

Yep, some countries of Europe has the same latitude as Canada, no A/C needed and many were delivered without A/C...

Kit with belt and pulleys. I also found the plastic pulleys wore out and developed unusual surface over time. I'm replacing them with the metal pulleys like this kit: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...c&q=serpentine

If you can believe it, my local Porsche dealer has the belt in stock for $75/out the door! I'm amazed they didn't increase the Porsche tax...LOL. I'll take a peek at the rollers once in there and see if they need replacing as well. Should be a simple job.

It is simple. You will need a 24mm socket on a breaker bar to manage the tensioner. You will also need blue thread lock and a torque wrench if you change out the pulleys.

Just curious, do you also carry a 24mm socket and a breaker bar? I've seen advice to carry a spare belt but can't imagine how I could put it on without tools to manipulate the tensioner.

Good point. My thinking is that if I were in BFE and lost the belt, a socket and breaker bar will a lot easier to find than the correct belt for a 25 year old Porsche at the local Auto Zone (assuming there even was an auto parts store).
