Default Instrument Cluster wiring harness connectors

I have been switching the interiors on two of my cars. My wife has a 03 C2, Midnight Blue with Graphite Gray interior. I have a 02 C2 Silver with Metropol blue interior. Guess what interior she likes best? Happy wife, happy life, so now she has a midnight blue car with Metropol Blue interior and I have a Silver car with Gray interior. In the process of changing the interiors I had to remove the instrument cluster and change the binnacles. The three wiring connectors for the instrument clusters have become brittle with age and they broke into several pieces. They appear top be identical 32 pin connectors that vary in color (white, blue and green). The actual inner portion with the wires slides into the outer colored cover. I want to replace the outer covers because the locking tabs that keep the retainer bar in place have broken off.
Does anyone know if these can be ordered separately from someone like Allied Electronics or Digi Key? If anyone has a part no. That would be very helpful.
I have attached a coup[le of photos of the blue connector for reference

Thanks
Mark

My eyes are not good enough to read the numbers on the side of the plug.

You can't get the through Porsche, but you can get them through VW/Audi, they are the same.....I was looking for these on a project I was thinking of doing a couple years ago..

You can get them through www.te.com using the AMP number on the side, but is easyier to get them through VW/Audi just using 32pin and the color...

I was able to order them from a VW dealer using the numbers zbomb provided. I tried the web site Skip posted but it told ,me the parts were restricted. Thank you for the assistance.

There are two different types of connectors depending on whether you have a 996.1 or 996.2

yep, you absolutely can buy them new as others have stated. I ordered a new set during my transmission/cluster swap.

I did a video on these connectors. Easily replaceable. Especially when there's no windshield. 🤣

Same thing happened to me, and it's also the blue connector. Maybe something about the blue dye that makes this cover so brittle. Green and white connectors seem fine. I also purchased the VW Audi part, 1J0-972-977-D. I also made a minor modification so that it won put stress on the wires themselves. I saw some online videos saying that this will be a tight fit. Well, I couldn't make it fit all the way in. I could see that sides were bulging, and at this point, I couldn't even pull the connector out. I ended up destroying the cover to get the connector out.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed VW/Audi parts have thicker rails than the Porsche.. Picture below is the original Porsche part that fell apart. The rails on these are thinner.

Now I'm back to square zero. I know VW parts also supply the female connector, but I would hate to have to cut the original wiring to rewire the female connector in. Is this the only way? There has be an easier method. I can't seem to find the original Porsche parts anywhere, even in the used market. I thought about buying another VW part and file down those rails. Not all way down (without those rails, the shroud/cover won't hold the female connector in place) but just the curved J part.

How did you solve this issue? Did you end up replacing the female connector as well?

I did not have to do anything to the connector, the housing slid right on. 996.2

I haven't been able to find them individually, so I buy this set:

https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...X6CLPLUGS.html

The part numbers on the connectors it he same, regardless of color, IIRC.

Woot! zbombs part numbers were the keys to the kingdom. Thanks zbomb!

The suffix is different for each one. As said vw can get them individual or they can be bought online. I didnt have an assembly issue on my car either.

My most recent blue one buckled when i slid in the wire loom. I just crammed it into the gauge cluster and it worked ok. I'm going back in to trouble shoot why I'm not getting an oil sender signal at the cluster. Since I figure I'll break the blue harness again, I'm keen on sources for replacements!

Yogi - Great video. Pls confirm these parts work with 996.1 and/or 996.2? I have a 2003 C4S and my symptom is Cruise Control is INOP. Pulled plugs out and back in, broke 2 of the three in the process. Then zip tied them back together. Worked initially, but now INOP again, so suspect the connectors are loose…
Pls advise on which 996 these work with or both…
Thank You!
