Louie Ott did some work on an S4 a litttle while ago with his SharkTuner.

He obtained about 10 HP at the top end with LH tuning and about the same amount in addition after tuning the EZK. You will also pick upin the mid range.

The stock S4 is fueled too fat at the top and too lean in the middle at WOT.

Dave, when you say that the Design III injectors "have to be modified slightly to fit"...what needs to be done?

Thanks,

Don't suppose you have any pictures or could explain in more detail size, shape and position where the groove needs to go?

i just put the injector (w/ o-ring on) in the fuel rail socket and then used the clip to make a mark on the injector body. i then cut the groove (both sides) where the mark was. repeated on the other 7...

David - thanks for the ongoing information.

Looks fairly straightforward. Is 0280 158 044 4L3E-C5A 1 11 2 04 103801 the part number? The FiveO site has the Design III's are part 0280155710-F6VE. Do you recall who you bought them from?

those are the numbers on the injector body. 0 280... is the Bosch #, one of the other two is the ford #.

pretty sure i got them from Summit, but it might have been ebay. it was 4 or 6 years ago...

Just spoken to FiveO and they advised the Design III 0280155710-F6VE injectors do not need the fuel rail clip to hold them in place - i.e. once they are in the fuel rail and inlet manifold they will be sufficiently secure.... As you can see in the picture, they do not have a groove for the clip.

What are peoples thoughts about that? Is it safe?

David - your injectors (0280158044-4L3E) are listed as 20lb injectors and otherwise appear identical to the 55710's.

I just did this last weekend installing the 36lb Design III in my turbo shark. We took the fuel rail and used it as a jig by inserting the injector (top) into the rail and using the dremel to make the groove all the way around by rotating the injector as we cut the groove.
From what I have been told, a couple of people used those injectors in their 928 without the clips and the cars later caught on fire.

I have a set of Ford Racing M-9593-BB302 (Bosch 0280155759 type III style) 30 lb injectors. They have the groove at the top for the retainer clip.

I have not installed or even trial fitted these yet, so I don't know if not using the clip would allow the injectors to move downward into the lower bore in the manifold until they disconnect from the fuel rail.

Maybe this can't happen, but it would be so unpleasant if it did, that I would make certain that it won't before I took someone's word for it.

Note that I haven't replaced the lower O rings yet. (Thanks Roger!)

USE THE CLIPs!

They can only go so far down because of a stopper at the manifold however you will have fuel leaking at the top by the rail if the injector moves down that far.. and that aint cool.

There have been fuel fires when the clips are not installed or not installed properly. I know of 2 locally.

I would never trust myself to get the grooves in the right spot. So i will buy Type II pre-grooved, 19 lb, 4 holers or go with stock. I don't want to risk an engine fire to save a few bucks.

Which begs the question...how many of us might have purchased 928s where the PO did an inadequate job of installing fuel system components? Best to check.
