The Opel GT is one of my favorites from the 70s. I'll never understand why Opel didn't continue the project by modernizing the concept. But for what concerns the Gulf color scheme...
Well, GM did - they continued to build the Corvette but for the American market only! The Opel GT was the poor man's Corvette in Germany developped in Germany, and built from 1968 through 1973. Then the energy crisis hit in 1974, which was a turning point in car development in Germany. Many projects were discontinued in fear of the oil shortage including a project that VW had in the works headed by Porsche. This project was the latter 924 and 924s - saved Porsche's neck back at this time and so did the 993 in the Mid 90's.
I still have my old 924s - great little car! The handling is just outstanding!
