Default Anyone switch back from RS Clutch

Hey Gang,

The 993 is my third vehicle and I don't drive it as much as my other two.
Last weekend decided to drive it to Palm Springs. 30 minutes into a moderate traffic drive, my left foot was really disgruntled. I was dreading shifts.

I put the RS clutch and flywheel on the car a long time ago when I was mostly using the 993 for track days. I don't go to the track anymore and realized, I don't drive the 993 as much as I might enjoy because the clutch is really, really aggressive. And I'm by no means "delicate"

Has anyone here had the RS clutch and then gone back to the original clutch? Did you keep the RS Flywheel when you went back to the standard clutch?

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Yes, install a German MPL clutch slave cylinder.
The MPL unit claims an approximate 30% reduction in pedal force.

Thanks, I emailed them. I'll update when installed.

I didn't notice any difference in clutch pressure between stock and RS clutches. Have you bled the slave recently? Does the pedal cluster need attention?

Hmm that’s odd to hear. I’ve had 1 964 and 1 993 with RS clutch and LWF. Both felt a tad stiffer than stock but by no means stiff. Pedal cluster as suggested above?

I think it may depend on what pressure plate you install with the clutch. The clutch itself isn’t heavier but most kits come with a sport PP that does increase pedal effort in exchange for more clamping force. The assumption is that if you are installing the RS LWF and clutch then you are going to be driving aggressively and the higher-spec PP will be a welcome addition.

Personally I like the extra effort during my spirited drives, but if I were driving in traffic I would probably feel the same as you.

If you want an extremely easy to press clutch pedal, you can install the hydraulically assisted clutch system from the 993 turbo. My car had it when I bought it and I still have some of the parts. It is not cheap to do though.

Fit the standard 964RS cover plate. Same part used on the 993RS and GT3 (and I've even used it on 3.8 & 4.0 litre engines), so as you have found the HD version is nothing but a pain in the leg for normal use.

I e-mailed them a couple of times a couple of months ago - heard nothing back. If you have more success be sure to post. I want one of these....

Do you know the part numbers for what was installed? How many miles? As the disc wears, the amount of force required to actuate the clutch increases.

The RS pressure plate that everyone is selling is actually the stock (since MY92) 964 pressure plate, which has less clamping strength than the stock 993 pressure plate... So like Churchill commented, you shouldn't really feel any difference. Now if somebody puts in a non-sprung "GT2" pressure plate you will definitely notice it.

This is the type of clutch kit I see most commonly, and is the type I put into my car (though not from this vendor): https://www.fvd.net/us-en/FVD116905/...t-lbs-max.html

The PP included is a Sachs Sport unit which has higher clamping force than needed for our cars stock (315 ft/lbs). I noticed an increase in effort of ~30% after the install. Took a few clutch engagements to get used to it and if I were stuck in traffic I'd probably start to feel the burn in my thigh.

EVERY Rennlist sponsor that has posted or had their customer's post images here (of what they've actually received), sells the "RS" pressure plate with the blue paint dot on it (Sachs packages the kit...) That color dot denotes the stock 964 pressure plate. Between the two Sachs part catalogs you can find all the clamping specs. If your PP doesn't have the blue dot then consider yourself lucky!

No blue dot on mine. Can you point me to a picture of what you mean?

Why lucky? Because I get a buff leg?

I have the MPL clutch slave cylinder in my C4S, combined with an RS Lightweight clutch.

Although it's a nice piece of kit, I wouldn't say I've noticed much of a difference in clutch force, though my clutch feels terrific after install
