In any case, when I see cars with clear coat problems, or mismatched tops, or even the steering wheel discolored, I think that the owner didn't care very much. He just wanted to hop in and drive, and he took shortcuts or ignored little issues. I think it indicates how well he took care of all things you need him to have taken care of, like oil changes. For example, why doesn't the guy with the mismatched top just fix the windows? That has to suck, not being able to open and close the windows. That would bug the living hell out of me. But this guy, he just doesn't care.

All that said, the lack of maintenance is reflected in the price. What is not reflected though, is the issues the car may have due to a lack of maintenance.
Thanks Mike, that's some good perspective. I knew to stay away from these, but that makes a lot of sense. It seems like the guy with the window problem was spread too thin and then something unfortunate happened and now he is needs to sell.

Here are a couple interesting fixer-upper 996s.

Being in Houston, I hope this owner is ok /\

This one looks rough but as a point of discussion, if anyone knows, what would need to be done for the door electronics to work again? (rain damage) He is suggesting the locking mechanism needs to be rebuilt. Could it be as simple as a fuse?

Also, I know paint shop rates vary widely depending on the quality (time) of the work. Any body want to throw some numbers out there on what these would cost to have resprayed? At least you could paint the hard top to match at the same time.

Based on the fact that these cars have been posted for a while, I think it's fair to say that their asking prices might be on the optimistic side. Agree or disagree?

Cheers - thanks everyone, this site is great, and has been really helpful in fueling my interest in looking for a 996.
The one in Houston is now a submarine, may need a snorkel...

I'm going to South Florida for business next week, so you always have to check Craigslist, don't you?

This is a pretty cool, unique 2002 with a taco wing, aero rocker panels....

Appears to be lowered, has LN IMS bearing completed, don't know what front end it is....but I like the look of everything!

https://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/ctd...264658580.html

$26.9K for a 69K mile car.

That's just a base front bumper. Needs the GT3 front aero bumper to complete the look. From the side, you'll notice the nose looks little high compared to the side skirts. IMHO, $27,000 is too high for a 2002 Carrera; however, if the LN IMS is the IMS solution and was handled by a certified shop, then it's worth every penny of $27K.

Didn't the side skirts change in '03? I've seen quite a few mkII cars with the older style side skirts. And, didn't the taco wing carry over to the MkII as well? I'm not positive.

Default busted engine project

This one looks quite clean if someone is looking for an engine project car, might go down as low as $5k ? from the rear suspension height looks like the busted motor is still in it so some parts might be salvageable to offset cost of a another motor
