As I look it over it appears there are 3 bolts plus 2 hex bolts for the starter? Is that correct. DO I remove the starter?
Grabbing a cold one now.!! l

okay well 2006 was 11 years ago now , probably all needs doing again

ok its apart, 5 nuts to studs hold the starter and tranny. 1 stud and bolt are used for the starter and 4 for the tranny. When you take the starter off you have 3 more nuts to remove. The fork is not broken and it turns the large post that would attach to the small arm. photos below.

doesn't look metal - pull it out - use hemostats if needed

see that yoke? it is prone to failure = yours looks ok, but to be sure it is not cracked under the grease, clean it very carefully (wipe then brake cleaner) and inspect with a magnifier

usually the TO bearing is just tossed

pull what out?
I was going to remove the pressure plate. Just unloosen the hex bolts correct? Any thing to be weary of if I do that?

well something is very wrong .. look at all the metal missing by your clutch fork. something has worn off and there are a ton of aluminum flakes everywhere.

No worries taking it all apart . I would mark where it sits just in case . that throw out bearing looks very crooked and bet that's what was rubbing .
This may be impossible but it kind of looks like there was only one ear of the fork in the groove for the TO bearing the other was in front , that's why it was crooked and binding when you pressed the clutch .

Lets wait till Ivan chimes in but id be curious if one side could " pop out" of the groove.

look at the bright side Randy ..
1. You know what the route cause is
2. All the trouble was worth while

Looks like you tore the crap out of that clutch , that's what you get for showing off to your buddy

and so the debate starts , which clutch kit to get .

Id ask on pelican as those guys are pretty knowledgeable.
