Default Is the new GT3 a poor man's 911R?

sorry if this has been covered, I have not been around here for a while. I have never owned a Porsche but am thinking about buying one. I was on the dark side with a e92 M3 a while back.

I have a few questions.

1) if you were looking to buy a GT3 (not RS) is there a dealer markup or limited allocation or can you just order one for list price?

2) GT3 6MT all the way or PDK?

3) is the GT3 (with 6MT) a substitute or a poor man's 911R?

I don't know all the particulars but knowing that the 911R is supposed to be more street use but it's a limited edition that makes it more valuable.

But if I were looking for the closest car to the 911R
a) GTS with options
b) GT3 with 6MT

it seems as if the GT3 is the closest, it's got same or better engine, same transmission, no rear seat, same rear wheel steering etc..

I appreciate the 911R might be better than the GT3 (maybe looks better and is more of a show piece) but if I wanted to *drive* a car, I'd rather drive something that is not a $500K collectors item (that will be worth a lot less if driven a lot) that plus I can't afford $500K in the first place.

you are a little late to the game for the GT3. expect a mark up as the waitlists are way long.

If so, poverty looks pretty good.

I think all this has been covered ad nauseam. 991.2 GT3s are going for over MSRP. Some lucky folks who put down deposits in the Stone Age may get them at MSRP. PDK or Manual is your choice. Don't think anyone would characterize it as a Poor Man's R. Different car, different plusses and minuses. Buy one of both so you can compare and contrast.

Poor man's R? Car (GT3.2) would seem to be better in EVERY aspect except residual and that plate on the glove box.

Thanks for the link, padam. Excellent.

As to the original post, no way is the GT3 a poor man's substitute got the R. If you are a collector strictly street driver, then the R is indeed the better car for you. If you are neither of the above, the GT3 is the better car for you.

The second half of the original post sounds like questions to substitute for the GT3. If it s about cost, upgrading a GTS with aftermarket items will cost as much as the GT3, and you still will not have a GT3. If it is about paying premiums over the MSRP, the answer is patience. Porsche has stated that they will produce as many cars to fulfill the demand. In short, if you want a new GT3, you WILL get a new GT3, at MSRP, it's just a question of when.

I may have to take back what I said about the GTS. Here's a thread on the GTS, bone stock as far as I know: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...991-1-gt3.html

I think anyone who thinks there will be an unlimited supply of GT3s and anyone who wants one will get one is kidding themselves.

I'm definitely poor compared to a lot of people on here, but I know a lot of people who would object to me calling my inabiliy to pay $170k for a car that they probably think is about the same as they one I already have, at least without waiting a year or two, a "poor man's problem".

No LWFW, no mag roof, no CF hood. Engine we are told is great but first commercial production run. I think it's fair to call it the poor man's R.
