That looks like a car battery set up 33 ft from the car. An interesting way to jump start a car? It looks like the person on the left is smoking. (but it could just be the scan quality)
BTW, IF it is a way to start the car, are we all required to wear lab coats during this "procedure?"

Correct, it is the factory procedure for deploying the airbags while in the car before disposal.
There are 2 other parts that go with the main harness, a cable for the drivers airbag, and and a Y cable for the passengers to go to both ignitors.
Any collectors have these parts

My caption suggestion was actually something along the lines of "Hey, let's see if the airbags work!" and it would have been intended as a joke. I don't ever want a bag to be deployed in my car. I've yet to find that page in the manual and I suppose since we're seeing it, the following doesn't apply to the 968.
In the majority of cars built today the deployment of the passenger side bag shatters the windshield. I'll stick with deployment while bolted to a heavy jig laying on the ground. That's always worked for me.
I suppose if you are discarding the entire car then what is depicted here would be an easier plan...

Hmm, I thought maybe it was a scheme to destroy 968s to drive up the value?
I've seen that picture in the service manual. GM has one like that also.
It seems stupid to me that if you are going through that effort to blow the airbag you could just take it out and blow it that way, face up of course. Or just short the terminals and set it on the shelf.
