Default 928 Old School Audio Project

Everything listed is from a crazy silly build I did for our Jeep Cherokee in year 2000, and I saved it all for the day something worth it, could use it.

Today is that day.

928 Audio Project: Old School, In The Old School

Phase 1:
Test the old HW that’s been boxed dry and cool since 2003.
Currently installed and working…yay…with great help from Mark Woudsma…
  • Head Unit: Alpine CVA-1003
——————
  • Front Amp: Alpine MRV-T707
  • Rear Amp: Alpine MRV-T707
  • Sub Amp: Hans’s Sharkwoofer Kit Kenwood XR-55
——————
  • Front Sp: Hans Custom Speakers
  • Rear Sp: Mb Quart RKC-116 2-way kit, mod’d for OEM enclosures
  • Sub Sp: Stereo integrity BM-MKIII
Supporting Gear:
  • -Sound Proc: Alpine PHA-H701 W/RUX-C701 Display & Control Unit
  • -CD Changer: Alpine CHA-S624 (TosLink connected)
——————

All of this is done as of today, car goes into full paint next week, I get it back June 1.

===========

Not yet installed and in boxes at home..sometime in June/July after repaint
  • Alpine MRV-1507 amplifier for the subwoofer, a monster. (Swap out sharkwoofer unit)
  • Alpine KCE-103V IO Expansion Module (additional A/V inputs to AI-Net network).
  • Alpine DCA-5205 TosLink DVD player
  • Alpine NVE-N851A Navigation unit
  • 1st Gen AppleTV W/256G HDD upgrade, my complete A/V library (Needs 110v)
  • HDMI to composite adapter for AppleTV
  • The proper crossovers for the F/R speaker sets..its just a crappy cap protecting the tweeters right now
  • Run a cable as an AUX input for iPod/3.5mm input up front

To be added that I don’t have in a box today:
  • Big Phat Capacitor
  • A way to duct/push cabin air to the HW
  • PAC IR-X remote control extender for AppleTV
  • A good 6-8” Mid-Bass driver for front doors

..I think that would define, where I want to end up.

Here's what I did in case it gives you some ideas. Mine is a '79 and I used the rear console from a newer rear a/c car to mount a 6 channel 1000 watt Amp that drives the 3-way component Focal speakers in the doors, the 2-ways in the rear quarters, and one of Han's Sharkwoofers in the trunk (it's a convertible). I modified the lid of the rear console to allow heat from the Amp to escape and customized Harley fairing pods to hold the large 6 3/4" woofers in the lower corners of the front doors. It's all driven by a JVC KD77 deck with Bluetooth streaming, USB slot, and it fit in the front console without having to cut the trim bezel. It's also connected to the rear view license plate frame back-up camera so the screen displays the image when I shift into reverse. I covered all the add on bits in CF vinyl. All Amo connections go back to the battery with heavy 6 gauge wire.

Looking forward to seeing yours come together and what ideas you come up with.
Here are some pics

SRP Racing. Lots of color and pattern choices and excellent quality. I drilled and tapped the OEM metal pedals, fastened them with tapered head stainless machine screws, then added a nylock nut on the back for extra security.

These are the pics I have handy - 1 of the pedals and one of the current Inpelle leather floor mats.

I had the appletv with an external converter setup at my desk at my last job with the head unit and the sound processor...

It worked fine..the content is ON the appletv in this generation, so requires not intern3t auth.

I'm in the middle of a audio revamp on my 91 GT. Going for quality audio, stockish or as close to stock look as possible. I am trying to address some fundamental issues the 928 has with sound.

When I bought the car the previous owner had already changed everything, MBQuarts everywhere, 90's amplifier, 90's Blau receiver, everything stock was gone except for the wiring harness which was abandoned.

To me his setup never sounded any better than the stock system that I had in my 91S4, louder but no better. I've lived with it long enough and I'm have doing my own update for the last month or so, an hour or two a few nights a week.

I've got the sub fitted, in the spare tire well, still on the fence on where to put the sub amp.

I've got the door and rear amps mounted in the same location that the stock amp was.

Spending allot of time right now on the door speaker install.

I'll post pict/results in another thread as I get further down the road.

You TOO need to get on the Hans Sharkwoofer wagon..because without numbers, they wont be made again.

Sub, amp, enclosure, all in one...and done properly.

Youve waited this long...
