Thinking about body work and thinking about wheels/tires.
Having recently "fallen in love" with the super 944 turbo cars of a by-gone era, I am partial to the duck tail type spoiler, but tend to think it's inferior to a wing proper.
But ... these cars would perform! I am curious how much drag they have compared to a wing. Anyway, my point is that I am thinking of mounting the wing low like this example. Mostly because I prefer the look.
Wheels & tires. Someone in town has some 8.5" and 11" 18 dia Porsche wheels. Rear tires are worn. Internet sez because 45 et rear/50 et front they are about 1" too wide. Not too big of a deal since I'm about to do alot of body changes. But by adding flares to fit them, I kind of screw my self out of using factory skinny wheels.
The other problem with them is not running SQUARE. I want to run square so I can rotate & it makes life easier in other ways.
The OTHER problem is cost 315 30 18 tires are like 500 US each plus shipping thats like 800 canadian for 1 tire. One tire!!
The other problem is I'm broke. To buy these wheels that need new rubber I just signed a contract to spend like $2000.00 Thats a lot of cake. A lot of cabbage. Lots of cheeeeeese... many carrots.
So, back to practicality. My original plan is: 4 16x8" wheels with nice sticky new rubber dot high performance summer/autocross 245 45r16. Now I can rotate. Should look pretty good. No flares or wide body kit.
Upon thinking about it, a guy could put a set of race slicks on some 7 or 8 inch wheels for the price of 2 wide rear wheels of the 11" variety.
But they will never look near as cool as the big fatties!
This will replace Wilson's rear view mirror. full time 7" monitor. Originally I was planning on having a couple of monitors and up to 3 cameras instead of side mirrors for better aero, but that's illegal.
I might go back to stock side mirrors, there are pigs in every sense... but they work so much better than these aero mirrors I have. Anyway, I am excited to get started on interior mods!!
check out these nifty side mirrors...from Rennlister "Carlsbergas"..he has since relocated the oil cooler, lol
perhaps you could work up some "aero mirror lumps" on the fenders.
I thought of running forward mounted, the main prob is the pass side.... What's the deal with the pass side mirror? Porsche must have not made the mirrors "mirror" images of one another.
Here in bald-eagle-town only the driver side needs a rearview mirror as long as you also have a center (windshield) rear view. To my understanding only in vehicles without center-rear visibility (cargo vans) do you need both "side" mirrors.
Roll cage gussets came in today. Not as pretty as I was expecting. Also I should have researched gusset standards in the FIA book before buying these. The main ideal behind gussets between cage & body is to protect the cage by stiffening the body so that the body doesn't deform so easily.
Extremely lightweight, only about 4oz each, and a nice curved front side for better aero than the stockers. I got mine cheap, but even at regular price they're not crazy expensive (around $160/pr I believe).
