I know your kinda at the bottom of the barrel on budget, but the 3 piece cross member from Lindsey would be well worth the money for you!!!! I'd be surprised if someone out there doesn't have a used one even, from a crashed car.

I thought about one for the NA. I mean it almost pays for itself if you ever have to do the pan again. Like even once!

Also the stud kit for the oil pan. I'm planning on that too!
When I ever do the bearings on the 951, I'm going to get the 3 peice for sure. On the turbo being able to get it out of the way would be golden!

I bet you could even Fab up a 3 peice, you've got the skills!

Not hitting but not enough "free flow" for the oil drainage of the turbo and apparently a restricted oil drain can lead to blown seal and lots of oil coming out the exhaust.

I noticed an early oil pan I have actually has a spot for a port in almost the exact location I picked, only and inch lower. I decided to grind off my weld & burn the bung in from the outside and then open up the port I've made even more because on the inside of this port is the block stiffener "girdle" and I'm fearful of a restriction.

(not having a aluminum welder at home is so time consuming & frustrating). I was able to sweet talk my old work mates into letting me use the welder for 5 minutes.

Once I can save enough coin I gotta get set up. I have WASTED like $200 in the past with these "brazing" alloy rods you can use propane torches & flux with. COMPLETE JUNK!

I will open up this port even more today before I mount the pan.

Thank you so much for your support brother. It means a lot to me. Other forums don't compare.

Today I think I got over the biggest hump, and hope momentum is on the upswing.

Figured I'd included a quick pic of the hogged out oil drain port.

Here's the cool oil pan with factory port (earlier design because no integrated crank scraper).

This is what I'm dealing with people!!! No ones fault but mine. Yayaya...

Feeling pretty awesome about the 250 lb/ft 1.25" drop springs.

Now that the crossmember is bolted in and engine mounted I can start the intake/exhaust/turbo. Lets get this party started!

that "port" you are looking at is just about perfect size for a 3/4 NPT tap...
ive been thinking of tapping that spot for a kind of "breather tube".

Thinking about body work and thinking about wheels/tires.
Having recently "fallen in love" with the super 944 turbo cars of a by-gone era, I am partial to the duck tail type spoiler, but tend to think it's inferior to a wing proper.
But ... these cars would perform! I am curious how much drag they have compared to a wing. Anyway, my point is that I am thinking of mounting the wing low like this example. Mostly because I prefer the look.

Wheels & tires. Someone in town has some 8.5" and 11" 18 dia Porsche wheels. Rear tires are worn. Internet sez because 45 et rear/50 et front they are about 1" too wide. Not too big of a deal since I'm about to do alot of body changes. But by adding flares to fit them, I kind of screw my self out of using factory skinny wheels.

The other problem with them is not running SQUARE. I want to run square so I can rotate & it makes life easier in other ways.

The OTHER problem is cost 315 30 18 tires are like 500 US each plus shipping thats like 800 canadian for 1 tire. One tire!!

The other problem is I'm broke. To buy these wheels that need new rubber I just signed a contract to spend like $2000.00 Thats a lot of cake. A lot of cabbage. Lots of cheeeeeese... many carrots.

So, back to practicality. My original plan is: 4 16x8" wheels with nice sticky new rubber dot high performance summer/autocross 245 45r16. Now I can rotate. Should look pretty good. No flares or wide body kit.

Upon thinking about it, a guy could put a set of race slicks on some 7 or 8 inch wheels for the price of 2 wide rear wheels of the 11" variety.

But they will never look near as cool as the big fatties!

I have a square set of 17x9 Cup II wheels sitting in storage. They normally come as a staggered set but I bought two sets and I'm using the 17x7s as a square set since I don't make enough power to justify the additional weight and steering effort of big fat tires.

They're not exactly huge race wheels, and shipping to Canada might be $$$ but if you're interested we can probably work out a deal.

I love CUP2 wheels, I use a square setup of 9" wheels with 225 tires.
Be carefull though, they came in two different offsets, ET50 and ET70.
If you plan to run a wide body 944 then you will need massive spacers.
I'm running the 924 GTS wide body which is about as wide as the 944..maybe a bit wider but not by much...and I'm using 35mm spacers / wheel to fill the arches.
Also these wheels might not fit the fronts with stock springs in place...I'm running smaller diameter coils.

I tried a similar thing on this 3 year old oil pan gasket. Used metal "mechanics wire" every second hole, combined with engine oil on the used gasket after I applied a dab of ultra grey silicone to the engine block seams. The wire or ties makes a HUGE improvement in ease of installing the oil pan. Thanks.

Interesting! Unique!
Probably extremely effective. Interested in more details, such as would you retain the factory fill tube?
And what would your goals be?

Ever notice these cars are always being worked on?
I got an idea! Drive the thing. Heck if I had that car I'd drive it everywhere!!

--------

There are 6 problems I see with these ultimate race 944 cars. Almost all of them from back in the daze or some of the builds on the Rennlist Turbo threads.
-No heat or a/c
-Tire wear is rapid and very expensive for long trips
-really LOUD
-lexan scratches so easily and no windows sucks
-There are gaps in the body panels (weather and wind noise)
-Drivability because pure race engine
(additionally I wonder how many miles can be put on say a 500-650hp 4 cylinder with extreme boost before bearings and other components need maintenance. Maintenance:downtime.

--------

Additionally, have you ever been disappointed with the interior of a race car?
Some of the fastest cars look like poo poo on the inside. If thats what it takes for the fastest, then so be it, I understand the priorities. But that's one thing that is on my present list of priorities is to make Wilson's interior Stack, business like... but nice & comfortable also. Even if it adds a bit of weight.
