For sale, 1988 10.2:1 compression ratio pistons for series 1 2.5 litre 4 cylinder engine. $260 US includes shipping to North American address.
Good used shape. From Wilson. With good straight rods. Never had a bearing spin. Comes with the factory rods & matching caps so installation is easier.
Install these & shave .030" off your head for about 10.9:1 cr.
Please note the close up photo of the piston top that I was overly aggressive when cleaning. Won't effect function but it should be mentioned.
If any 928 folks would be interested, I also have 4 I would be willing to part with. I don't know much about the 928, so I don't know if they already have HC pistons, but just saying, with Noah's 4 we can make 8 if anyone would be interested.

Problem with this is that the 928 block height is 2mm higher than the 944 so even these HC pistons would be low-C for them...
For example a 9.5:1 US 944 piston in a 928 block becomes and 8:1 piston...
No problem, 944 racers should be on these pretty soon.

I realize they are cast, but we know they can take a reasonable amount of boost with a good tune. I wonder if anyone has ever done that for a budget boost build on a 928. Seems like a cheap way to make a quick spooling 500 hp if you already had a 100mm bore 928 block/crank/rods and a pair of small turbos laying around; like maybe a pair of 60 trim straight T3's @ .7 BAR?
Well that answers that!! I had always heard our 944 engines were just half the 928s 5L. But I guess don't believe what you hear!
Out of interest, why/how are they different? Seems it would have saved Porsche a ton to have the same Pistons and rods shared between the two.

no idea...you'd have to go back to 1971 for that answer
944 deck height (crank centerline to block machined top) is 230mm and 928 is 232mm. the rods and stroke are the same so the piston pin height is 2mm greater.
i'd guess it had something to do with piston stability/noise since the 928 was made as a GT car.

So shave 2mm off the top of the block. Easy pezy HC 928... Right? No big deal.
Ok, done hijacking your thread Noah, I now return you to your regularly scheduled post.
How did you clean the pistons? I'm always very careful with the pistons, particularly the sides, because I don't want to take off the factory coating for alusil compatibility. I clean with solvent, a nylon brush, and a plastic scraper.
I was just about to say "yeah right, I can't afford an ultrasonic cleaner" but I just looked them up and they're quite reasonable. I'll put it on my wish list!
