Default 'Weaker' decklid shocks for lightweight aftermarket decklids??

I recently installed a Stratton ducktail on my 964... the install went smoothly, but when done, it is apparent that the stock decklid shocks/struts/supports are meant for the full weight of the OEM decklid/motorized wing assembly. The aftermarket decklid is much lighter, and as a result, the resistance of the OEM decklid shocks is too strong and stiff for the new, lighter decklid. This makes the decklid very hard to close, and liable to pop up violently when the release latch is pulled.

Was therefore wondering, how is this problem overcome? Is there a lower resistance shock that can be purchased? ... or is there an easy way to modify the stock shocks to make them 'weaker' and unload more gently? Or does one remove the shock from one side and leave the other? (This would seem to lead to torque-ing of the decklid... no bueno...)?

Any assistance from those who have done aftermarket decklid replacements on their car would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I used one new one and one old one on mine. Works well going up and staying there. Good luck!

I think most people just eliminate one strut. That's what I did, works perfectly and is just the right amount pressure.

using one strut would damage the lid by twisting it, no? For how much work is involved in painting and fitting the ducktail, I'd be careful!

I eliminated the struts altogether and use a shortened version of the RSR hood prop.

Most shops keep old decklid shocks around just for this purpose. If you have a regular mechanic I would ask them if they have any.

Zero issues and even less so with the Stratton considering it's partly steel.
