How are you guys painting the ashtray cover so nicely? Are you scuffing off that rubbery texture? Or are their some parts out there that don't have that to start with?
I agree that all these painted consoles do look magnificent... I haven't decided what to do with my interior, yet... Too many options (paint, leather, carbon, etc, etc...)
One of the things I like about the carbon route is that if you have aftermarket accessories, it gives you a surface to which you can adhere things and not have any damage upon removal. In my 997 I have a Steelie magnetic phone mount and the remote for my cargraphic AirLift on the center console (remote under parking brake handle) and the remote for my Calibre radar/laser system on the carbon roof console.

Maybe you were kidding. I use 3M trim tape or velcro to adhere these to the CF but even though it's adhesive, it can be cleanly removed without damaging the finish. Leather or paint would get torn or peeled.
I love my leather lower center console. Not only the look, but the feel of the leather just makes the cockpit so much more enjoyable and special for me.
So decided to go with the paint option on the center console and door handle plates and here is a quick video on how we melted the pegs on the door handle covers. We were going to use a soldering iron but had an idea to heat up a flat screwdriver and use that to melt the peg and at the same time flatten it. Worked out great. I'll post pictures of the finished job tomorrow when it's light outside.

I concur. I have the inside door handle surrounds in leather too. It's such a joy to open and close the window now.
The only thing I want now is the lower center console in leather.
