Just purchased a 2012 Cayman R.. mint, very low mileage.. very pleased

It are has all the right extras. (well in my non bias opinion) manual, carbon seats ect.

It also has the PSE option.

I have seen that there is a PSE hack where the exhaust valves are completely open all the time..

How much of a difference is it with the bypass, as opposed to "just" pressing the PSE button??

Anybody knows?

It's the same as pressing PSE it just allows you to keep it on all the time

This add on box is set up so that you can set the PSE to always be on, I thought that was what you meant. There may be some other sort of hack to do that but I'm unaware of that method. I just use the dash button.

IIRC the valves are normally open until vacuum is placed on them so you can always disconnect the vacuum line leading to the valves so it's always open. You may need to plug the vacuum lines afterward to eliminate vacuum leaks.

I was under the impression that when the disconnection of the vacuum vales was done, the exhaust would become louder either low down or higher up... I guess I was miss informed.. That just leaves me to wonder, who would the the disconnect of the valves?? if all you gain is the very easy push of a button...

You may be right regarding the valve closing at certain RPM's but without actually disconnecting the valve I can't confirm. I had heard at lower RPM's the valve will close even with PSE turned on but again I can't confirm.

Otherwise you are correct that the only difference is not needing to push the button every time you start the car.

Congrats on the Cayman R, she is a beauty! Just to confirm, disconnecting the vacuum lines with leave the valves in a default/constant open state. If you are still looking for more sound out of the car (I found the valves open on the PSE to still leave a lot to be desired on my Cayman R), keep the factory PSE and upgrade the headers with either our Race or Sport Headers. The factory headers are the weakest link on the car in regards to performance, and the sound improvement becomes absolutely intoxicating haha.

wow that sounds intoxicating.

But as I will be tracking the car, and there is a 85 dB limit on most racetracks here in Scandinavia, new headers would be a no go

Well that is a bummer! However, for your reference Limerock here in the states is limited at 86db. There are several members here on the forum with 987s that run our catless Race Headers, Maxflo Exhaust, and Turn Down Tips and pass the Limerock sound restriction. I think this would be a pretty solid setup for your car considering the circumstances haha
