Default Supercharger to Intake Gasket? Eaton/TS

On my early Keel Supermodel system, when I disassembled it, there was Right Stuff RTV on the flange. It really didn't appear to be the best solution. I'm not sure what other folks with either the Keel Eaton kits, or the 928 Specialists Twin Screw kits used or are using? I have a gasket from the original Jaguar factory installation (about 1/4" thick rubber), but since the supercharger is mounted upside down on our cars as compared to the Jag, it just appears that it could have the possibility of more moverment than I'm comfortable with. I may be wrong about that, but in most factory supercharger installations the gaskets are much thinner, more like 1/8" or less. I've contemplated using either the RTV as was originally used, or some anerobic sealant like the Loctite 574. Any thoughts or suggestions from those of you who have BTDT would be much appreciated. Thanks.

ps-I've also thought about making my own gasket out of thinner material using the original as a template.

I work in the ship supply (on the weekends). I run across various gasket materials, usually large rolls for heavy industrial application, but recall someone mentioning this shop below.

We routinely use this shop for gasket material also, right around the corner from our warehouse:

I can't recommend what to use at this point but one of these two shops might be able to give some additional assistance/insight alongside the RL braintrust as they call it. Try calling the Texas Gasket packing first and see what they recommend. Hope it helps.

Hey glad the injectors worked out for you! Took a few phone calls but no worries.

Hope the lead on gasket shop helps with your question.

now that the weekend is over and everyone is back at work, and reading the list:

Does anyone with a roots/twin screw supercharger have any input as to what type of seal or sealant they used to install the supercharger to the upper manifold? TIA,

BRB..i will get a picture. I use that "orange" rubber material? have no idea what its called. Think i got it from McmasterCarr.

https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-r...heets/=16nmosn

i didnt use the "RIGHTSTUFF" on that area.

yes the car is dirty..parked at the airport for 4 days.(looks like my camera phone lens/sensor is about shot also)

i also dont use bolts anymore. I put studs in the lower section and then the upper plate with the SC attached gets lowered onto it..then the nuts secure it in place.

FWIW the Thunderbird from whence came the original Eaton M90 gets RTV.

You can get a teflon gasket for between rotor case and bolted-on "outlet" if you want.

Thanks guys this is a timely thread, I had a bitch of a time removing the SC installed with that Right Stuff sealant and I too was looking at a different gasket that would hold up.
Was even thinking of using an S4 type gasket when reinstalling the Andy Keel/Auto Rotor on my 86.5, I wondering what to use for SC to the Heads also?

So Tony that is a thick rubber you cut out to fit and put on dry?

The studs sound like a good option, I have 4 long ones that came w/ the original install for SC placement then they used bolts.

Thanks guys,

The Teflon rear gasket is an off the shelf part?
I have a cork gasket on mine.

Thanks,

Thanks Tony. I actually have a sheet of that same silicone gasket material ready and waiting. LOL. Bought it a few months back just in case. Did you install it dry? Do you remember what torque you (and/or Darien) used for the supercharger to intake bolts or in your case nuts? Somewhere in my research for other Eaton applications I came up with 18ft lbs.

The Autorotor definitely attaches differently than the Eaton. Not sure if I could use studs. Do you have any pics from your install from way back in the day?
I countersunk the holes for the mount fasteners and went with countersunk head screws. Definitely a LOT cleaner.

Dave, back when I was taking my Eaton setup off/apart I had a heckuva time fighting that Right Stuff as well. Everything associated with the intake had that stuff liberally applied. Definitely works though.

I went back and reread Andrew Olson's thread " Supercharged '91 GT Engine Refresh" and he said he (and DR I guess) used The Right Stuff on the original install, and he was so pleased with the performance of it, he reused it after his engine refresh.

i cut it to fit and installed it dry. I cant recall the torque either, but that is why i went to studs/nuts. I was afraid that after several installations/removals that the threads in the upper manifold would get weak.

I also went back after a short period of time and snugged the bolts a bit more as the rubber will compress. I also marked the bolts so i could track if they loosened over time.

Ive had mine on for quite a while and it sees regular "use" ...no issues at all with my manifold or intercooler yet. <<touch wood>>
