What to do about small amounts of paint inside fuel rail and intake?
I did something stupid today and without thinking to tape over it, I painted my fuel rail and my intake manifold. The paint came out decent for a first coat; but I neglected to tape over the ports on the intake where the injectors sit, and the port on the fuel rail where the fuel pressure regulator goes.
Since both parts seal with an O ring, I think it'll be ok; especially the intake where there is no backing surface to collect paint. The O ring will seal the injector against the port. I'm a little more concerned about the fuel rail. Even though the fuel pressure regulator seals with an O ring too, as you can see from the pictures a little bit of paint got into the rail. Is this anything to be concerned about; should I do anything about it?
set it up so you can fill the rail with gas for a day and see what happens to that paint. If it wants to desolve or go soft, you will need to deal with it via some chemical stripper and a good flush after it. I would hit those spots where the injectors go in to the intake with some stripper too, it *should* be fine, but it could be a pain later so i'd just deal with it while its easy and avoid any issues.
ok. i have a gallon of acetone becahse my girlfriend is an artist I'll clean out the injector ports and the rinse the fue rail FPR port with it too. and be sure I tape off for the second coat.
Acetone and Q-tips worked great! Got the rail and the intake cleaned up, going to plug the holes and do a second coat and call it done. My motor gets here in two days and I'm hoping to have assembly finished by sunday and ready to drop in next week.
