Default Winter Storage

Well I think that this may be last weekend before the fuel gets topped up with stabilizer and the car cover goes on for good. I thought last weekend was it for sure but there is one more run in there for sure.

Does anyone do anything special to their car before storage?

Put a few bounce dryer sheets on the inside, on the carpet, front and back, the more perfumed the better, keeps the mice and other little critters away.

I clean/wax car, go for one last run to dry it off. Fill tires to prevent flat spotting. Keep tires from direct contact to concrete. Leave in neutral, do not engage parking brake, have wood block behind rear tire to keep it from rolling. Close door to first click. Open windows a crack. Keep tender on battery. Cover car. Buy a bunch of parts and wait to install. Wait till spring to arrive.

Just took the insurance off yesterday . . . *sigh*

Think I've done everything else listed above. I have a Porsche issued bulletin for winter storage, and they recommend lifting the wipers off the windshield as well. I've never done this before, but have them pointing up now!

I don't think my car cover would like that...wonder what that's for? Relieve stress on the springs?

My insurance is still on...this week is supposed to be nice. But my workload has been brutal. I've worked every single day and night.

You should also avoid filling the car with fuel that has ethanol in it, ethanol is hygroscopic.....

Good call. I never use ethanol fuel....and out here, I think only Shell Gold is the only option left for that.

So many things to think about. I think I am just going to pray that we get no snow and I can drive it all year round !!

You think I am being a little optomistic here?

Keep running it until they put the gravel on the roads!! As for fuel, how about Esso and Petro can? I thought the only fuel with ethanol was Husky?

I'm not sure the ethanol is a bad thing for storage as it will absorb any moisture in the fuel system Better that than having it sink to the lowest point and oxidize. I suppose it could attract moisture to the system but the fuel system is pretty well sealed so I'm not sure.
I put mine up on stands as well to prevent flat spots....or wife permitting the wheels are stored in the house somewhere...

Okay let's talk flat spotting tires. From what I read, it's not going to happen over a few months?

Absorb it into the fuel? If your tank is full, not much moisture will be getting in there. Besides, winters here are dry.

Meh, you can fill up the tires to 50psi to avoid the little that might occur, or you can drive for 4 minutes and the tires will go back to round.

Guy's, If you are looking for inside locked storage in the Calgary area, My father in law has storage in Chestermere. Contact Ralph or Donna at 403-272-8497. I keep both of our cars out there and it is very secure.

Rod,
