Default the 951. The most under valued car ever?

For the record, I have had 6 911s and only 1 951. So this is not a question being posed by a sycophantic die hard 951 guy. BUT, I was driving the 951 this weekend. It is one fun car to drive! Handles very well, comfortable (well this one is a little 'stiff' when it comes to bumps), and then you hit the gas and the phrase 'whoa, whoa tabern*cle! comes to mind.

But is not just that. I never really liked the style that much in years past. But. times change and car styles, and tastes evolve. people ask if it is a Ferrari (OK it IS red). But what started me thinking was when I came in from the garage just now, and turned to hit the lights. I looked back at it and the 911, and thought, "Damn, they are pretty. But that 951 just looks, well, HOT! it has some seriously dangerous lines, as opposed to the 911's curves. Sorta an Angelina vs. Jennifer thing I guess.

these cars still run under 20K. they are a blast, and look good. Some even never blow up. And if they do we have probably pushed them to do so. They are Porsches, and will beat just about anything on the street or track if set-up and driven right.

So what do you think? is that value? Or do we need Brad Pitt to weigh in on which is the best bang for the buck?

I think they're one of the best looking cars from the 80's. That they're fast and fun only makes it better!

I personally think the style has aged pretty well, especially compared to most cars of the same vintage.

Define 'finally fixed'. They both run really well. and I won't mod but might sell the 911. The 951? there is always another tweak to do. Warp speed Mr. Sulu!

Now I don't know what to do if i sold the 911. although...

Oh no, The only thing that car could use is a paint refresh. everything else will stay as it is. And paint is OK, just a little tired. I could'nt bring myself to modify that car, there are very few left in that condition. the link is one for sale for 50K, that would have cost 100K to get there. 330 HP in a 2200 Lb car is fun. And i always liked the old RSR style. Ask Bruce or Rob about yellow bird. very cool car. We'll see. No rush no worries, who knows? a cayman? 951? had a supercharged 911 but never a turbo, that might be fun.

Paul, I think you should fix the exhaust leak...clearly you are sucking on the gas and it's messing with your ability to reason.

I,ve had a dozen 911,s and one 930 never a major failure. I had a 1986 951 new, had 3 clutch assemblies (chatter) and a new exhaust header (crack) under warranty within 30000 km. The car dropped the cam belt at 47600km 400km just short of the first service . Porsche split it with me, as it was just out of warranty. Sold and bought a 2 yr old 911 cab same year but bulletproof.
The reason 951,s are so cheap and 911,s (pre 99) aren,t is operating cost not looks.

Funny, I got this message while I was at CMP. Didn't respond as I was too busy with people admiring the car...

Was it broken and stalled by the pit lane?

Well looks like I have to get back on the track, and specifically ask for you to teach me how to drive the car that has given me the eternal weekend; every time I drive it on Sunday, it is so fast I get home on Saturday.
And no it wasn't broken and stalled, it was running, and I did you all a favour. let's just say there won't be mosquitoes at CMP this year

Q: how do you pass a 951?
A: wait for the headgasket to blow

Q: how do you pass a GT3 in a 951?
A: Put the 951 in reverse

Q: how do you spin a 951?
A: wait for a GT3 to blow coolant
