Question 993 Transmission shop recommendations? - regear

Hi guys,

I'm looking to re-gear my 993 (replace 3-4-5). My local shop doesn't do transmissions.
Any recommendation in Ottawa? If not, how about Montreal?

TIA
Rob

No idea if they rebuild transmissions or not but AutoImport on Woodward have always done good by me ...

Rob, are you thinking about moving 5 to 6th, and reducing spacing between stock 2 and new 3,4,5?

Would be very interested to see how that works out.

Not sure who the local experts are, but wonder if you could instead get a really experienced rebuild in the US Northeast. Not that's it's rocket science, but I'd want to find someone that has done a lot of G-50's and can source parts at the least outrageous cost possible.

Dr. Porsche: André Gaudet

If you can have him find some time to do it. He is not cheap but he is the man !

Thanks for the advice guys.... I'm calling around now. The two main problems now are
- finding someone who actually has skill with G50s
- finding someone who has time in April! Chris Kirby told me not before a *month*

Matt: Exactly... replacing 3,4 and 5 with shorter gears, and moving 5th to 6th. I'll let you know how things progress. Might try to the Northeast if no luck here.

Andre: Thanks for the info, didn't know about him. I'll give him a shout.

Have you tried Whaletail in Kitchener/Waterloo, or RSP in London?

Pretty far from Ottawa... I'm looking more around Ottawa/Montreal and maybe northern NY.

It may be a bit far, but I'm sure Joel Reiser would do it for you.

That's what I was thinking. Joel, definitely has the experience to do it right; he raced 993's as I recall. And reasonably close to you too.

Is this a "nice to have" or do you have actual transmission problems that are time sensitive? If I didn't have pressing problems, I'd definitely take my time and shop around, check references, and get one of the top shops to do it. It's big bucks, and you don't want to do it twice!

PLease PM me with details on what you decide to do. Interested myself.

I would suggest Andre Gaudet in Montreal IF you can get a work-time slot. If not #2 choice would be Joel Reiser in N.Y.

Good luck and please share results.

Derek
