I am to busy watching the German GP to really care, just don't delete the OT section.

-- The best option is always the one you already know.
-- On my desktop/laptop screen there's adequate space for the current left-side menus without disturbing readability of the lists and message. No problem keeping the current layout.
-- When viewing via a mobile device (iPhone) I end up zooming for readability, and the left-side menus are off the screen. Real estate is precious, so the top pull-downs would be a better option for mobile device users.
Has thought been given to an option for mobil and low-bandwidth users to have a stripped-down low-frills faster-loading format? Many sites seem able to do this for mobile users already. OK to keep the header ads, for instance, but no animation please. Complex frames that take a while to load-- not needed when I have to wait for them to load then zoom past them anyway. You get the idea, I'm sure. That would reduce some of the bandwidth loading for the system and servers too.

I link directly to the forums like many of the others have already mentioned. There should be another option for the poll for those of use who don't care where the menus are because we never use them.

I voted no change. I don't particularly like the side menus, and they really make nav on the phone a pain. However, I voted to keep what we have because I can't see the option provided working well either.
The provided graphic shows a fly-out menu with only the top level categories. I have to assume that clicking water cooled in the flyout would do one of two things, either another menu with the current 12 options, or go to a watercooled menu page with those 12 categories listed, which I would then have to select to go to the actual category I wanted.
Because I think this flyout scheme is way too messy (and also would be horrible on mobile browsers), I'd rather keep the current menu until you guys can come up with something cleaner. That is my opinion, as someone who builds web applications for a living.

We think it might help with navigation on the site if we changed the menu from appearing on the left hand side when you visit forums.rennlist.com instead of on the left hand side as it does currently.
What do you think?
Top one is the concept
Bottom is the current.
Thanks!

I like it the way it is....I have it bookmarked and find the current setup to be easy to navigate...plus the drop downs sometimes lend themselves to clicking on the wrong one when you're in a hurry.
If it works.....don't fix it.
Thanks for asking the troops though....it's always nice to be included BEFORE the change occurs.
