I vote to remove the menus completely. If you browse this site on some PCs with a smaller resolution you always need to scroll to see all the good big pics.
So anything to make the viewing window bigger is better. IMHO...

I don't like the side bar and that's why I don't use it. I have bookmarked several forums directly and that bypasses the sidebar. Example: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum-59/

this new layout looks much better then a bunch of stuff crammed in the corner, with that said - I barely use those menue options right now, but if changed, I imagine I would use them more often, because they would be more noticible

I don't use the menus at all, I bookmark: https://rennlist.com/forums/ and I go right to the forums.
But I agree, drop down menus tend to be problematic, especially with frames.
