Default MTO appraisals

So I need to get an MTO appraisal done on a vehicle that I just purchased. The car doesn't currently run. Any ideas where I can get one done without having to bring the vehicle? Not a high value vehicle at all

Very easy, you can do it online: answer a few questions about your vehicle, pay $22.00 + tax and you will receive your official vehicle appraisal (MTO Form 1159) in the mail. I have used these guys recently (no affiliation):

Good luck!

All cars over 25 years must have an appraisal. Under 25 the value on the UVIP is used to calculate taxes (whichever is greater bill of sale or UVIP value).

Or in the case of a salvage car or one in rough condition the buyer can choose to get an appraisal (if the UVIP is much higher than the actual sale price).

I ended up ordering the online package since I'm not in a rush; lets see how fast it is. Just send in some pictures of car and answer a bunch of questions.

Just frustrating that they won't give me temp plates if I had needed to drive the car to an appraisal, or for safety etc since I bought it AS-IS. I understand since they want to make sure to collect all the $$$ coming their way before ownership transfer. I hadn't purchased an older vehicle in quite some time so i wasn't expecting this hassle.

You can get a special (temp) permit as long as the car was not registered un-fit by the previous owner. Than you get your safety, appraisal and come back to transfer and pay your taxes.

To get the temp permit I believe you have to transfer the car into your name first. And to do that you need to pay the taxes. I ran into this a few years ago it was a pain in the a$$!

Edit: Looked at the MTO website and they have changed this, as long as the back of the ownership is signed you are good to go.

Ya it changed when they made appraisals for 25 years and older mandatory. We get multiple people per week that get sent away to do an appraisal.

But the worst is dealing with a car that is registered un-fit. Even if your not driving always plate them.
