Here's a news flash for you: IT'S NOT HIS POLITICAL INCORRECTNESS, IT'S HIS BEHAVIOUR. The man has a monumental ego (a trait he does indeed share with Gomeshi), and likely has a narcissistic personality disorder. There's no question his behaviour has escalated from the socially unacceptable (racial and homophobic slurs) to the criminal (assault, and not his first one). I don't see how BBC had any choice but to fire him.
This is probably the best, most concise, and accurate description I've read of the whole debacle so far. Spot on.

In fact, it's entirely possible Clarkson wanted to be fired, as Top Gear had probably reached peak popularity, may have been running out of material, and he will never be able to spend a fraction of the money he's already made anyway. This way he leaves "in character", without the risk of being stuck in a contract to continue producing a declining or stale show. Now he can pretend to be a martyr to political correctness: in true Clarkson style, bull**** right to the very end.
This i agree with . Keeping inmind a few key points ..

The incident happened with less than a month to go in his current contract.
The incident was not reported by the producer, it was Clarkson himself who reported it to the BBC.
In previous iterviews Clarkson has admitted he is a dinosaur in the business and has outlived his usefullness.

To me this is how Clarkson would want to go out.

I dont think he will ever be charged. The producer wont press charges. Dust ups in the Uk are fairly common and they dont run to the police everytime one happens. Its a diffent society to the N.A. litigous process. ( Then again i grew up in Sunderland, a different society completely anyway )

It's not an accident that top gear is the #1 show at the BBC and has a worldwide following.

From my perspective, Clarkson has accurately developed the correct formula that allows him to stay at the top for longer than 6 months. This is a CAR SHOW! Just take a look at the numbers. What is really surprising to me is how many women that are present during his telecasts- they range in age and it appears that all those beautiful ladies are genuinely happy to be there. I wonder if they are all feminists who want to coach their men on how to operate and maintain a vehicle. Did I just state that- oh no.

Because of this I have to ask myself several questions: Is the BBC ready to throw their star and #1 show host under the bus and lose all that nice advertising revenue? If, Clarkson does get the boot, how many stations would love to pick him? Do you really think this guy would disappear, or will he come back stronger than ever? I wonder how many TV producers, who are frolicking at the mouth, have their rosaries out while praying Hail Mary’s, that the show gets smoked.

The propaganda being generated by the newspapers and TV media is endless.

I’m not buying it. I believe that Clarkson has benefitted from all this attention-in many cases, it is negative. But it still is attention. Clearly he is a master manipulator and will remain a force du jour. His TV audience will expand and we will all breathe a sigh of relieve knowing that he is still on the BBC.
And tinker bell will spray her magic dust all over the land.....

He is too old to come back in a TV show.

I honestly skip half of top gear, only about 10-15 min of the show is entertaining and that's only if there is a decent car they are driving. Also the only guest that I had any interest in was the guy off Breaking Bad. That segment of the show is terrible and boring. Most of the adventures are not worth watching either, little bit of comedy but my main interest is in the sports cars.

Watching Top Gear for the car reviews is the same as watching **** for the storyline.

Wow! Such a macho crowd on Rennlist. I can almost see your virtual muscles flexing. Never figured there were so many tough guys around here.

As you said earlier, the Producer deserved to get punched out by Clarkson because he provided a meal he didnt like, Lawyers deserve to get punched out on a regular basis because they practice law, and Im guessing that your Wife deserves a good beat down once in awhile when she doesnt get your socks quite white enough. I get the point... you are one tough dude!

Anyway, when you do need a Lawyer the next time you're facing charges for assaulting someone, don't forget to call Lionel Hutz, Attorney at Law!

So the smart money would hire all 3 and bring them back as "High Gear" or whatever. They'd all make millions and the BBC bureaucrats would look like the ***** they are. No worries though, they'll just get the British taxpayer to make up for their folly of kissing 330 million viewers goodbye. Gotta admit I'd be pissed without a hot meal at the end of the day. Jeez I miss 'em.
