The cost to rent the Grand Prix track at CTMP (formerly known as Mosport) has become exorbitant. By the time you factor in track rental, paramedics, liability insurance, lunch, flat bed truck, qualified instructors (which is key with your insurance in case of a mishap), think about $550.00+GST per car if we limit to 34 registered cars for the day.
I hear about the re-developed DDT (which should be cheaper) but I am not sure if it will satisfy you in terms of “stretching some legs” (the 912 will need the back straight of the GP track for that… at least )
TMP (Cayuga) will be similar to the DDT in my opinion but would be the cheapest of the lot for sure. I cannot speak for Grand Bend as I am not familiar with this track or its rental cost.

I looked into renting Grand Bend for a private day a few years ago and the rates were really reasonable, would have been $50-75 per car, depending on how many people came. I'm sure prices have gone up a bit, but shouldn't be too bad. It's a more open track than TMP - if you're not wanting to really hammer the brakes and steer hard through tight corners, it's a better track. I find TMP very hard on my car, much more so than the big track at Mosport.

i know a guy who would be very interested in this also who would come out . has a 2.7 who just wants to see how his car would do on an open track without the pressure of 300HP cars bearing down on you .
Not sure how it would all work tho, would guys need to be "signed off drivers" or as mentioned , could guys come out who are weekend Porsche drivers that just want to see how their car would do in a track environment. ?

I really Miss Dunnville as it was a just a buch of guys doing exactly that .. there was even dads with their sons in smal cars teaching them high speed driving ..

any Mishapps were really minor with Phils corner, a few 4by 4 Carreras going off into the fields and one moron who fired his moms Mustang into the hay bails and shot it 20 feet into the air..

Would be great to be able to drive faster but not have the pressure of everyone trying to pass you. I'd totally be interested if there was a group available for newer cars but wouldn't want to crash the vintage party, so if not, that's okay

Driving on a track is about driver's skills, not the car model.
This is why the run groups are divided like they are.
If you stick a person on a track with no experience, with an advanced driver just because they have the same car, it won't work.
What would the passing zones be? Beginner or advanced?
This is more about safety than anything else.
Just saying .....

One of the most fun events to see are the VARAC races which is for cars before 1989. I imagine its even more fun for the drivers.

Rod makes a good point... at Watkins Glen this year there were a lot of old 911's in the green run group, and every car was at a different pace. Some kept up with GT3's, some didn't keep up with anything, and everything in-between.

I still think the idea of a "vintage track day" is really cool, but also agree that the run group comes down to the driver's skill and not the car.

FWIW, I've never minded being run down by the fast cars at Mosport. I love it when they pass me right before a corner and so I can see just how well I can keep up with them. It's quite easy to keep up with a boxster or 996 through a corner if the driver isn't as advanced as I am.

Try being in the red run group when you give them the pass in the corner and then tuck in behind them.
Soooo much fun!

Can somebody please define what constitutes a vintage? Is it skinny tires, air cooled, or just low power.

I hope it's not just vintage...it would be fun lapping with all Rennlisters.

BTW; Anyone going to BMW Trilliam on the 3rd through 5th at CTMP?
