Ready for spring?
some neighbor's dropped by to say hello.
eddie's (turbo'ed) 997.2 turbo - stunning, and mohammeds boxter - very sweet too!
sorry for the poor quality photos, phone kept on dying.
my car goes back on the road tomorrow.

I gave the DD a good pressure washer soak down to get rid of the salt, and a hand-wash.
First wash since Nov after a good coat of Collinte 845.
The silver is such an easy color to keep clean!

this week being what looks to be the first consistent week of good weather i had to put insurance back on.
my story:
- removed battery tender + checked the oil level. the oil level was beyond the MAX; yet before the car was put away the car was 1 full bar under from being full. i figured either the oil level cluster sensor froze to death or water condensation had built up from the winter.
- the first time i started the car, it struggled for a bit (rpms went up to maybe 1500) and promptly died. i tried 2 more times and it wouldn't start (no rpm movement this time - dead battery style). there was also that 'p-car engine smell' but a bit more 'smokey smelling' then usual. soiled myself a little from the excitement; and waited about 1.5 minutes tried again and the car started right up.
- let the car idle for about 30 seconds and drove around the neighborhood slow (while trying to keep the rpms between 2500-3000). the engine did sound louder then normal, and when coasting slowly to a stop; i could hear an annoying chafing noise coming from the passenger rear brake disk. ugh.
- after 10 mins of driving miss daisy, gauges all read well except oil temperature, which was still at 150 (lowest reading possible). i decided to take the car to the main roads, taking everything gradually of course... it didnt take long before the oil temp moved up to 200.
- drove about 35 km total (no highway), made sure to turn the climate controls back on (eco mode of course) and the car + engine felt buttery smooth and torque'y again, exactly how i remembered it.
- there is still some chafing noise coming from the rear passenger brakes upon stopping/slowing down; but absolutely minimal now.
- to be safe for a first drive after months of hiberanation; i didn't take the car past 4500 rpm.
- after parking the car; checked the oil level again and it's now exactly at MAX (but not above). i take it my morning stroll burned away some water??
just want to check with you guys that things like
- a few start attempts after storage (battery tender on the car during winter)
- oil level increases due to winter condensation
- noisier engine after 6 months of sleeping (but goes away)
are completely normal. other then those things it felt great to be back, now i can stay away from the forums for my p-car fix.
i'll lower some air out of my tires afterwords to make sure they are perfect (had them all at 50 for storage, who knows what they are now) before going for another stroll later today on the highway.
here is my car happily getting some sun for the first time in 5 months.

i'll see you brothers on the road!

The no start or multiple starts is not normal, I've never experienced that, always starts without any drama with first turn of the key, and this is the 3rd season I've stored the car through winter with a GTEK battery tender connected.
Oil level was not an issue for me, I don't recall the exact level last fall after changing the oil and put the car away, but all I checked each spring is to make sure the oil isn't low.
With the Fister-D muffler, I couldn't really notice if the engine was louder in the spring after storage this past couple of years, but I would say no for my car after the first storage through winter.

My guess is that if your oil level is close (or at) MAX, then sitting for the winter could push it over the limit as the small amount of oil remaining in the engine slowly drains back to the pan.
My engine is always a bit louder in the spring for the first few minutes. For the past ~5 years it has always started in the spring with a reasonably load ticking sound and more mechanical noise. I have assumed it was either the lifters or timing chains. I noticed this year that the noise seemed to last until the engine was almost completely warmed up. But (like other years) the ticking sound eventually disappeared and the rest of the engine quieted down. My assumption was that it takes a bit of time for the lifters and chains to get covered in oil again after being completely dry. The noise is only present the first time I start the car after sitting over the winter.

thank you sirs(s) for the insight.
deflated tire air pressures back to normal 39/44 and gave her a go on the highway. motor/car pulls strong as ever.
heading to niagara for work tomorrow so that'll be a great way to stretch her legs some more, put 100km on her since yesterday.

Well, haven't taken the 911 out since Jan. 14th!
Finally had some time this afternoon...checked tire pressures and fluids and started her up. Love that sound!
Nice cool, clean day but still only 5 C out, so took it easy...first, letting coolant and oil warm up, then winding her out a little. My street is still sand covered but the county roads up here are clean and dry. Very nice. Bring Spring on. I'm ready.
